The original user can't remember
the password and you cannot get
past the first screen without it.

1. I think you can hold down
shift or tab through the whole startup.
Is is a bios password or a windows password?

4. You've got a problem...
By default, password security is NOT set on a Compaq laptop, so someone put a password in...so, it's whatever someone put in (i.e. pretty darned difficult to figure out if you don't know it).

You can always try:

system
admin
password

One of those may work...

5. I fear you might be right
Is there another way around this?
I have a feeling those passwords will not work.

8. I found the password. Whew! Thank You all for your time
The first thing I will do with that password
is to eliminate the need for a password!
