Somebody that went to Bible school help me out.
I have been racking my brain all day about this. When I was in Bible school as a kid the Nun made us memorize a list of commandments that Christians are supposed to follow. The list included feed the hungry; shelter the homeless; clothe the naked;tend to the sick; etc... What was the name of the list of commandments? I can't remember for the life of me.

1. They are not the 10 Commandments
They are the Corporal Works of Mercy

2. The Beatitudes
From the Sermon on the Mount.

from http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02371a.htm
The text of St. Matthew runs as follows:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land. (Verse 4)
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8)
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)
New Advent is one of the best Catholic resources on the net.

4. Corporal Works of Mercy
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 04:15 PM by BareKnuckledLiberal
Same source, New Advent: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10198d.htm
To feed the hungry;
To give drink to the thirsty;
To clothe the naked;
To harbour the harbourless;
To visit the sick;
To ransom the captive;
To bury the dead.

The spiritual works of mercy are:
To instruct the ignorant;
To counsel the doubtful;
To admonish sinners;
To bear wrongs patiently;
To forgive offences willingly;
To comfort the afflicted;
To pray for the living and the dead
Thanks to dryan for the correct list name!

7. so how many of these does the current administration break?
on a daily basis?

feed the hungry? nope

clothe the naked? well, Ashcroft did buy a robe for the statue Lady Liberty.

visit the sick? nope, has Bush been to Walter Reed yet to visit our wounded troops?

bury the dead? again, Bush hasn't gone to any funerals.

forgive offences willingly? gee, if so, we wouldn't have invaded Iraq as Poppy's revenge.

Counsel the doubtful? Those of us against the war were called a focus-group. He didn't try to persuade us, just rammed on ahead.

I could go on and on...

3. It's the "works of mercy"
Tend the sick, shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, visit the imprisoned, clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty.

Matthew 25 versus 31-46.
