CONFESS!!!!! What was the first Album/CD/Cassette/8track you ever bought
Not sure what medium was the standard when you bought it, but what was the first recording that you every purchased with your own money (which means that Shaun Cassidy 8-track my mother got me doesn't count).

The first one I bought with my own hard earned money: Electric Light Orchestra's "Out of the Blue" I still have that album and I love it too!!!!

5. Steppenwolf "Second"
I was nine years old. My mom took my brother and I to some department store. I think he bought Paul Revere & the Raiders. I picked Steppenwolf's second release. I loved "Magic Carpet Ride" from the radio, and I liked the way the guys looked on the back cover, kinda fun in a slightly dangerous adult way.

You know, I still LOVE that record (which I have since owned on cassette and cd). Some of the best blues-rock ever recorded, IMHO. It's got a permanent slot in my top 50.

which shows how much I adore that album. Everytime I switched music medium I started with the best. And further irony - the 2nd Cassette and CD I bought was ELO's "Out of the Blue" (which was my first vinyl).

Actually was looking for Disraeli Gears (because Sunshine of Your Love was on it).

But, they were out of it, and the guy at the store told me the new album was really good. It was a double album, so i had to borrow the other $2 from my dad. He lent it to me, rather than having taken the drive for nothing.

I still have that album. No working turntable, but i still have the album.

70. Ritchie Valen's 1st LP (vinyl) on the Del-Fi label, in Stereo!
I used to drop that thing on the turntable and run around the house, just going nuts.

Wow! :bounce:

71. This takes me back

First one I remember buying was Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender on vinyl 45 when it was first out! After that, it was a long drought (lack of aloowance) until Beatles IV, the album (first actual full album I could afford) on vinyl 33 1/3 monaural.

My first radio was an old wooden cased jobbie with fabric speaker. It only go AM and was built around 1939. I got a real Japanese transistor radio in 1957 and adored it! I could actually carry it around!

I think the version of the single "A Boy Named Sue" which became popular was excerpted from this album.

90. Vinyl: Elton John's Greatest Hits (the first one)
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 03:40 PM by southpaw
Cassette: Bob & Doug McKenzie - Great White North
CD: Pearl Jam - Ten (I resisted the format change for a few years)

on edit: I have never purchased an 8-track! I thought they were shit even before cassettes were available (The best songs were always the ones that got cut in half.)
