Deer rescue
Did you ever have something happen that was simply too cool for words? My wife and I did last week.

We here headed to the western end of the state (KY) to see her mom. It was a pretty day, so we decided to take the backroads for part of the trip. About halfway there, we found a small fawn in the road. Mom had been hit by a car. The little fella was so confused and weak that he let me walk up to him and pick him up without a chase. There he was in hy wife's lap for the next 3 hours; about 8-10 pounds of legs and ribs. During that time, he decided that ear scratches were a good thing. Every time my wife stopped scratching, she got a nudge to remind her to keep scratching.

I called our veterinarian for advice as soon as we got his little butt of the road. Let's just say that a bottle of whole milk, Karo syrup and an egg, much ear scratching, and 3 hours later he was set to go at a rescue facility in Murray, KY. We'll be back to visit him on the next trip down that way.

Now all we have to do is get the smell of dog pee out of the front seats of our BRAND NEW CAR! We had picked it up at the dealer that day and drove it on the trip. When we got out at the rescue facility, Little Miss "How dare you bring another animal into my car and give it all your attention" showed her displeasure by peeing in both of our seats. Oh well, that's why they make upholstery shampoo and Febreeze.

2. Don't use Fabreze
Go to the pet store and by the stuff that is specifically for pet stains and pet odors. It will work better.

That IS a very cool story. Imagine, ear scratches. VERY COOL.

3. That's actually what we used, but I forgot the name
and Febreeze was the only similar thing I could recall.

4. Definitely cool!
Thank you and your wife for the kindness you did for the little fellow. BTW, as I pulled out of the parking lot at work yesterday, a 'teenage buck' scampered past me into the field across the street. See a lot of deer this time of year here. Looking for food & water.

6. No thanks necessary
Folks who don't know me well are amazed that I did it. They know me well enough to know that I hunt and they just can't imagine that a hunter would attempt to rescue what could potentially be a future main course.

(I am happy that the little fella will be released in an area in which I don't hunt deer. It would make it awfully tough to squeeze the trigger if I thought it might be him in a couple of years.)

7. Actually,
the hunters I know would have done the same.

Good for you!
