2. Why do you think she'll eat you alive?
You know, if HE likes you, that's what really counts. But my guess is that if you're courteous and pleasant, the mom will be just fine about her little boy dating you.

10. A MOM
Advice from a Mom. Just be yourself. Mothers can see through things just like you can. Think more about whether or not you will like her.

17. "liberal Southern Baptist" well, that sounds like an oxymoron
I live in the Bible Belt and for some funny reason never associated Southern Baptists with liberalism.

That just stroke me as odd...sorry...

19. State flatly what you are
Don't bring it up, but don't avoid the question either. Just state in a matter of fact way that you are SB and not of the conservative variety. And refuse to argue about it. Just say, "I'm here to have a good time and get the know every one, not have an argument."

She may or may not "approve" of your theology right then, but in the long run will respect you for being who you are.

First I meet him at a bar at the end of Jan.
Then he moves to Joplin to be closer to me back about the end of April.
Last week he asked me to move in and now he want to see about having me meet his parents by the end of this month!

23. They should worry about you liking them!
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 11:44 AM by Wubette
It sounds like things are getting serious with this guy. You certainly don't want to have a long term relationship with someone who's parents are nasty to you--Would you? When you commit to someone you are also in many ways committing to his/her family as well. If he is close to them these are folks who you will be involved with for many years. It's a good thing for you to check them out to see if you want them in your life. Believe me it will be better than you are anticipating. Relax, try not to be hypercritical of them (or yourself)-I suspect they will be just as nervous to meet you. One suggestion I have though is to have them to your house first so that you can keep busy in the kitchen if things get tough- Or meet them on neutral ground like a restaurant which also more or less keeps it time limited-you won't have to hang around there house for hours.

One more suggestion have a code with your boyfriend to clue him in to when you want to leave. Only use it if you are desperate. This worked for me when I met my in-laws in the sense that it gave me great comfort that I could get the hell away from them if I needed to without embarrasing myself---Luckily I didn't need to use it.
