4-Foot Alligator Wanders Into Restaurant

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Alligator wasn't on the menu at Cafe Creme, but it got pretty close to the kitchen.

A 4-foot gator sauntered through the rear door of the German-American restaurant Tuesday night. It was eventually removed by animal control officers who relocated it to a local wildlife preserve.

"Now we can say it's alligator alley here," owner Hans J. Hummer told The Stuart News.

Hummer said he was at home when a waitress called and told him about the gator, which was near the kitchen.

"We were thinking it's a joke," Hummer said.

Animal control supervisor Melissa Behres said she has seen alligators in homes and pools, but never a restaurant.
