OOPS! High School Prom Keepsakes Include Shot Glasses & Champagne Flutes
<snip>

For a dozen years, Ohio Township police have offered anti-drug and anti-alcohol programs in Avonworth schools.

Two weeks ago, they staged a mock crash scene to emphasize the hazards of underage drinking, especially during the prom.

So if Ohio Township Police Chief Norbert Micklos had been choosing keepsakes for last week's high school prom, he wouldn't have chosen shot glasses and champagne flutes.

"I don't think it's the brightest thing," said Micklos. "It wouldn't have been my choice."

But it was the choice of students at Avonworth Senior High School -- shot glasses for the boys and champagne flutes for the girls, imprinted with the date of the prom.

4. Nothing New - I Got a Brandy Snifter At My Senior Prom
Morristown High School, Morristown, NJ - 1971. It had the school crest on it, and the words "Senior Prom, 1971".

My older sister went to her prom in 1967, and got a beer mug with the school crest on it.

5. yeah I saw this in the paper today
On one hand, I can understand the confusion. And you would hate to see any kids killed because they were celebrating, drinking and driving, etc.

But I think we are so puritanical about alcohol in general at times ( and about sex), that it increases the binge/forbidden fruit mentality in kids that so frightens parents. I can still picture one of the parents at my prom lugging away a huge bag full of clinking bottles at our prom. I wonder if Europeans, who see wine and beer as just a normal part of life, have this same level of problem.

It is also funny, because when I graduated from college, my nieghbors, who were both teachers, made me a filet mignon dinner and a Bloody Mary ( my choice) when I was 18. Sort of a rite of passage.

6. Ahem... Those are "candle holders" and "water glasses"
Like those flat disks of clay were "candy bowls" and not ashtrays.
Like those small little pots were "decoration" and not accessories to plants of dubious legality.

;)
