6/3/2004

TAMPA, Fla. (CP) - Oleg Saprykin's overtime heroics put the Calgary Flames one win away from the Stanley Cup.

Saprykin's goal 14:40 into overtime lifted the Flames to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in a thrilling Game 5 Thursday night.

They can clinch the Stanley Cup with a victory in Game 6 Saturday night in Calgary (CBC, 8 p.m. EDT).

1. YEEEEE-HAH!!!!!
I was following the game for a while online but got distracted during the third period when they were tied. I'm sorry I forgot to return to the game, but I'm glad to hear they won!

LET'S GO FLAMES!!! :bounce: :headbang:  :toast:  :headbang: :bounce:

2. Calgary was outplayed, but weathered the storm
3rd period and most of overtime was all Tampa Bay (I told you DUers they were the team to watch this year. See! See!). Kipper even made a couple of blunders that they were able to recover from. In the end, Calgary had a burst of energy and I think it just took Tampa Bay off guard.

4. People are driving around screaming and honking
Somebody's setting off fireworks nearby. And I'm in a far-flung suburb, I can imagine what's going on downtown. They win on Saturday, and the place is going to go blotto.

8. "the place is going to go blotto"
Yep. That's the word I was looking for. Never knew it existed until now, but that pretty much nails it on the head. :)

The Red Mile (party bar district) is wall-to-wall twentysomethings, I hope they brought in enough portapotties.

10. I wonder how many show up to work today?
ZenLeftyGirl and I always wondered how many Calgarians can still go to work after a night of wall-to-wall partying. :o

13. It's the Stampede that does it
The annual 10-day party and drunk fest. Calgarians have lots of practice.

12. They have been well behaved
We'll see what happens if we win tomorrow. I don't expect much trouble though, it's Edmonton where they turn cars over and burn things when they win stuff.
