Toothpick Links Man To 1991 Killing Of Elderly Woman

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. -- A man serving prison sentence for trying to kill two women in Lake Hamilton was indicted on first-degree murder and burglary charges for allegedly strangling of an 80-year-old woman 13 years ago, after police said he was linked to the crime by a toothpick.

James Arthur Holloway, 51, who was serving 30 years in Union Correctional Institute, was expected to be released in July, before the indictment on Thursday.

In February, Polk County Sheriff's detectives reopened the investigation into the March 2, 1991, killing of Maggie Rigsbee, who had been strangled with an electrical cord and found on her bedroom floor.

Holloway, who occasionally ran errands for the elderly woman and drove her around town, was the last person seen with her before she died.

Linking the guy to a crime with a toothpick sounds strange, but it's their stock in trade. They also do cigarette butts, silverware and water glasses, among other things. Just send the stuff in and they'll run PCR on it to find out who's been using it.
