Drug, alcohol busts put IU in class by itself
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 06:00 PM by Champ
Bloomington campus was No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in a survey of 2002 arrests.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University junior Evan Boyko said he's not surprised that the college again ranks among those with the highest number of drug and alcohol arrests -- part of an increase in on-campus partying that continues nationwide.

"Police here are a lot more stringent than they are in other college towns," Boyko, 20, said Thursday. "They set you up to get arrested."

IU's Bloomington campus ranked first among universities in drug arrests and second in alcohol arrests in 2002, according to the latest available statistics released by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a weekly national education publication. The statistics were complied from data collected by the U.S. Department of Education.

But figures IU administrators compiled from 2003 show arrests on the decline.

2. Hell, IU's always been pretty bad
Both in terms of lots of partys and overzealous cops. I once was arrested from walking the half-block from the bar to my house. When I asked them "Should I have called a cab for a half-block walk home?" they said "Yep." And that was that.
