Up late. Just off to bed. Saturday is my 'day off,' i.e. I don't have to work on putting out the truthout edition for the day, but I am still on call 24/7/365, so if the cell phone rings, I gotta answer it.

The cell phone rings at 6:23am. I marked the time. 6:23am. The cell screen shows the name of one of the truthout editors, and if an editor is calling me at 6:23am, some serious shit musta broken loose somewhere. Boom. I'm awake.

"Hello?"

...thumping sound...

"Hello?"

"God damn it, hello?"

His goddam cell phone was in his pocket, and the fuckin' thing dialed me as he was walking down the street.

5. That happened to me not too long ago

My best friend and I were having a garage sale. She was up early setting things up and the people who were supposed to be helping wouldn't get out of bed. (I wasn't supposed to be there til later in the day.) Anyway, my name is the first one on her speed dial list and she probably just pumped against something and accidentally hit the button to dial but I prefer to think it was amazing psychic powers that dialed her phone when she really needed my help.
