4. Jimmy Cliff
Many Rivers To Cross. Gawd...I love that song. Not real Raggae, per se, but the angst sure emerges through his vocals.

(But you've probably heard of him) :-)

15. cliff's "i am the living" it was never put to cd. the best album in reggae
count on it.

follow that up with early third world...96 degrees in the shade, arise in harmony, you've got the power, and rock the world.

you'll dance so much your feet'll bleed.

5. there was a really moving interview on the radio
last night. It was an interview with Rita Marley (Bob's widow) on WBUR's "On Point". She was totally inspiring. Sorry for n/l but Google "WBUR", if your interested, I'm multitasking right now, and am not sure whether or not they archive the shows. It was in the second hour segment though and totally worth a listen, if available.

For some real fun roots I love Steel Pulse.

In 1993, at the request of the Clinton Administration, STEEL PULSE became the first reggae band ever to perform during the inaugural festivities in Washington DC.

12. Eek-A-Mouse, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Benjamin Zaphanista...
...for starters.

Particularly Johnson's "Making History" CD...it's a battle-cry for the oppressed left.

18. Thanks for all the good suggestions!
Im definitely gonna check out Third World and Black Uhuru. Ive heard some of their stuff and what Ive heard ROCKS.

Here are some of my own suggestions for yall: Dub Side of the Moon by the Easy Star All Stars (a reggae remake of DSOTM by Pink Floyd. GET IT, TRUST ME), Yellowman's Greatest Hits (again, GET IT) and anything by King Tubby if you like Dub reggae.
