Anyone see Harry Potter yet?

I saw it last night and it was great. Alfonso Cuaron is an interesting director and this film blows the other two out of the water. The film made me cry a few times.

Harry's story is really sad and this film really brought that out.

I am not just saying this as a Potter fan but as a former film person, this film is truly fantasic.

Do yourselves a favor and see this movie!

1. Saw it yesterday

My daughter and I read the book together and both loved the movie! My wife has never read the books or seen the first two movies, but she went to this one. Even she liked it.

Anyone with a smidgen of interest should see it. It's better even than the second one which itself was vastly superior to the first.

Of course, if it's not the kind of thing you like, please stay home and don't criticize it.

The books are amazing. Rowling has tapped into archetypes and universals, and has written a story that I think will truly stand the test of time.

4. Pretty true to the book

Though the books are getting longer and this is becoming more difficult to do. I liked it a lot, now I think I'll read the series again to pick up on the details. Yes, I read Lord of the Rings when each movie came out.

They're going to need to bring in new actors if they are going to do more movies. Hermonie's actress can starve herself but she's going to blossom some day. I took one look at Draco and thought "Who's that?" until he opened his mouth. I believed both Lupin and Black's character, and am a Gary Oldman fan to begin with so maybe that didn't hurt.

Obviously they had a larger scenery budget for this film. Everything seemed more mountainous. In the first two films, Hagrid's hut was a short walk outside the gates, but this time it seemsed quite the hike.

6. This movie pales to the book.

Cuaron tried, but there's just too much story in a Harry Potter book to fit into a movie. He had to leave too much out, and what was left just seemed incomplete. Same as the first two movies.

They've already started making "Goblet of Fire", and the execs have promised it won't be over 150 minutes. While I'm curious as to how they expect to pull that off, I don't think I'll like the end result.

On edit: And Draco's growth spurt was nothing compared to Neville Longbottom's. Either that or they used a different actor and hoped noone would notice.

7. If movies start getting too long

We need to bring back intermissions!

I hate having to abstain from food and drink before going to see the latest epic.

I found the first one to be very close to the story, I could almost follow along page by page. The second one was pretty close, too, but out of necessity had to skim over things. I feel there were a lot of details left out of this movie purely for the sake of length. The fourth book is even longer than the third, and they're going to have to take some shortcuts. There was so much ground cover I couldn't help feeling some level of detail was lost.

Now, just as with Lord of the Rings, people complain about little niggling details that aren't just so. I realize that translating a book into a movie is not going to be perfect, though some people expect perfection. I am not one of those people. Overall I believe Prisoner of Azkaban was a good movie, and I will probably add it to my video collection.

I believe it was worth seeing. However, I cannot rate this one above the other two movies even if the production values were greater.

5. The best of the best of the best. Sir.

And I disagree with those who say the kids are outgrowing their roles. They grew up over the course of the books, it's right and proper that they grow up over the course of the movies. By the end of the last book Harry will be an adult. If he survives the dark one's assaults. (Rumor has it he will have to sacrifice his own life to destroy Voldomort. J.K. won't comment on it, so only time will tell.)

8. Saw HP at the Omnimax theatre today

AWESOME! This is the best Potter film to date.
