11. First of all, vegans aren't a race of people...
Therefore, the term racism doesn't fit. And secondly, the vegans I know/hear about on TV are all activists who think that if you drink milk/eat meat, you're scum of the earth and murderers. If it weren't for the beef/pork/poultry industry, Cows, Pigs, and Chickens would be extinct. And besides, animals were put here for our use.

13. Aw, vegan folks aren't all that bad. . .
Vegan meals feel good to me. I'm "practically" vegan in that I try
to eat that way as often as I can, but I'll eat seafood, poultry, or dairy
products if they are all that's around when I'm away from home.
And occasionally I'll buy some seafood for myself.

Their are a plenty of overly emotional vegan preachers, I'll agree
with you. But it can be a healthy diet, if you do it right.
It's good to have a good understanding of macrobiotics and the
forces of expansion and contraction so you don't cause yourself
any problems. Easy to become spacy, depressed, or fatigued if you
don't keep the right balance and avoid sugars.

My two cents... Peace.. mj

15. well, nice way to make assumptions
about what you've seen on TV.

cows, pigs, and chickens would not be extinct if it weren't for the oh-so-glorious meat industry. The meat industry is a gigantic republican conglamerate that pays their workers shit and treats them about as well as they do the animals.

And just how do you know the animals were put here for our use? That just smacks of specieism. Humans are animals too. Replace animals with "negroes." "Negroes were put here for our use." Let's try women. "Women were put here for our use." It's just another disgusting "ism" Racism. Sexism. Specieism. Humans have done more to destroy this earth and its inhabitants than any other creature. If anything, we are the inferior ones. We've failed.

16. Oh yeah...
That's the same. God, that argument is just too weird to even comment on. It makes me a carnivore.
YEah, we've failed. But not because we've butchered animals to feed our families and have clothes to wear. WE've failed because no one cares about anyone else.

19. We've also butchered animals because we felt like it...
there is a huge amount of meat-eating in this country, far more than necessary, in fact far more than healthy.

Humanity has caused the extinction of dozens of species and systematically destroyed huge natural areas. We have failed in actually trying to care about things not human - and things human too, as you accurately point out.

20. And I don't dispute that we eat more meat than necessary...
and that we've fucked up the world...But I also don't think it's my place or anyone else's to say that I can't or someone else can't eat meat. It's there for whoever wants it. And with this Atkins thing, it's only got worse.

21. Who is being forced?
I'm not totally vegetarian but I get tired of meat-eaters defensively saying people should be able to eat what they want. Well no shit! When was the last time someone was forced into being vegetarian? The fact is, people are pushed into eating meat. How many public gatherings, restaraunts and get togethers don't have options for vegetarians? Its people who eat meat that are pushing their ways on vegetarians.

22. I guess both sides get it...
If we had vegetarians in our family, we'd have options. That's just the way we are.

5. Hmmm....I am semi...
I rarely eat meat...I try and eat chicken and fish more also. The way this culture is set up unfortunately, it is more expensive to be a vegeterian. I blame this on the corn subsidies and breaks the government gives the farmers...In many other cultures meat is more expensive as compared to fruits and vegetables...And when you think about it makes sense as the amount of resources used to produce meat compared to vegetables..
