He deserves it for being willing to take on intriguing but less lucrative projects like "Rushmore" and "Lost in Translation".

because parents of young children are totally desperate for G-rated movies to take their kids to.

I've been seeing the previews also, and it looks awful and dumb. The one good thing about being the parent of very young kids these days is that there is a large backlog of decent kiddie movies to buy or rent or check out of the library.
