My friend says I intimidate women by the way I dress...
She says I dress like and old man. Typically, when I'm going for a decent night out, I'll were a sportcoat and dress pants with a collared shirt - no tie. How is that intimidating?
I've told her I believe in a time when you looked your best when you went out. She laughed and called me a dork....again.....anyway the whole thing came up because I'm going to her birthday party next week and she told me "If you wanna get any don't dress like someone's drunken party-animal uncle."

Women what's your opinion?

- I'm about 25 by the way.

1. My opinion
She's mean. Sounds like you were dressed well. Be yourself and there's a woman out there who'll appreciate that. :)

4. Well, as much as I moan on DU sometimes
For the most part - I like being the weirdest guy in the room.

She's not mean, it's kind of a running joke to call her up and make fun of me.

Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 12:12 AM by KissMyAsscroft

Sorry to break the news to you. Sportscoat+Slacks+Collared Shirt=just got off of work=DORK.

Maybe try a button up shirt and some sort of beat up looking jacket with just jeans or something....if you care at all..

if you don't care, than you wouldn't have posted this, right? Well....whatever...the NyQuil is kickin in now...later

7. It very much depends on where you go and
what the tone of the evening is.

I wouldn't use the term 'dork.' But if it's a casual evening out with friends then a sportcoat, dress slacks and a collared shirt might well be a tad more formal than you should be aiming.

Regardless of what your belief is in regard to dressing for a date, you don't want to make a lady in your company feel she is underdressed or inappropriately dressed.

12. Sounds like you need to watch "What Not to Wear"
It's on TLC. If you do, it will help me avoid a long list of things that look great together. Here is one favorite:

Good jeans, button-down shirt (w/ some light pattern, shirt untucked) and a good leather coat. In summer replace leather with denim. Basically, if you invest in a good pair of jeans, you replace slacks/dress pants.

Hope this helps! :-)

16. It sounds to me like you need a "Fab Five" make-over.
But, never fear.

Why not go to a real nice department store or mens' shop near you? Search out some nice sales people. Nordstrom people rock!

Try on some new clothes and get some opinions. Ask questions.

I'm sure you have plenty of good clothes in your closet that will still work for you.

And, keep up your confidence! There is someone out there for you!

:-)

I can't say anything about the way anyone else dresses... I have a taste for long black skirts slit all over and held together with buckles... and army boots...

I just dig looking like I had a run-in with an angry beltmaker ;)

I re-did my friend Jays wardrobe for him... I just took him out, and shoved stuff into his arms and said "TRY IT NOW". It was fun. He looks about a million times better, but I think that was different. His clothes didn't fit right, or were worn out, and he just didn't seem to know how to go shopping. I just wish I'd had some duct tape along to shut him up, he likes to argue.

Clean and neat. 2 most important things.

drunk... rambling...
