My friend was camping in Canada and a grizzly bear fell on her.
She and her companion were asleep in their tent, after having tied their provisions overhead in a tree. In the middle of the night the bear fell out of that same tree and landed on their tent after having fallen while trying to grab their food.
It raked open their backpacks and, with two claws, punched holes in a can of condensed milk. Now she wishes she had saved that can to some day show her grandchildren.

Lesson learned: drink merlot instead of milk.

2. Been fishing in Manitoba for years
Hang your food away from camp. Bears are always present where we fish, you just learn to deal with them, and don't give them any opportunities to get in trouble.

3. In my younger days, I used to do a lot of hiking/camping in

North Woods up here in Maine. I can remember, quite vividly, a night spent in my tent while a black bear hung around the campsite. While they are not grizzley-class bears, I can tell you I was quite panicked in wondering what it was up to 3 feet away from my sleeping bad. You can bet I didn't sleep a wink that night. I, too, kept my food strung up away from the site, but that didn't keep him (or her) from rummaging through my backpack.

Another time, when hiking with some friends, we came across two cubs. That really freaked me out because bears are quite protective of their young.....we quickly and as quitely as possible egressed from them.

5. LOL, you are supposed to hang your food a good deal away from the tent!
You wouldn't believe the found memories I have of flinging a rock at a tree with a rope tied to it. :)

Middle of the night they wake up hearing a bear snorting around their campsite.
She says, "Good thing I've got the M&M's in here with us.":D
That bear would have really enjoyed the merlot.

8. actually this reminds me of the time
we camped on a lake in the Adirondacks. We thought we were really smart by putting our food in a canoe, tying it to the dock and letting it drift out a bit. We woke up to splashing and other noises. The bear was pulling the canoe in by the rope.

ha ha smart bears....
