The foundation is raising money to build a pavilion to house the Air Force One that Reagan used
during his presidency and that was retired on Sept. 8, 2001. The Boeing 707 was first used by
President Nixon in 1973. During its life span the plane was also used by Presidents Ford, Carter
and the first President Bush as their lead planes, and Clinton and the current president as back-up
planes. Reagan Foundation officials have targeted mid-2004 for completion of the pavilion.

1. They put a new Air Force One into service Sept. 8, 2001?
Didn't know that.

4. Ah, I see
It says that Bush was using it as a backup AF1, not the main one, before it was retired.

3. That's probably when the 747 went into service.
The Wright Patterson Air Force Museum inb Dayton Ohio has many of the presidential aircraft. Since they are operated by the Air Force that seems the reasonable place for it to go.

But this isn't exactly a reasonable week.

6. For the record, "Air Force One" is a call-sign, not an aircraft.
Granted, it is a call-sign almost always assigned to one of the USAF B-747s. However, if the president is on an Air Force Gulfstream-5, it's call-sign is "Air Force One." If the VP is on a US Army Gulfstream, the call-sign would be "Army Two." The Marine helos that transport the president from the White House to Camp David and Andrews AFB use the call-sign "Marine One."

7. Right, said AF1 for clarity/lack of confusion, love the story about AF1,
when they were taking the other traitor nixon home and calling in to reassign the call sign at 12 noon when they no longer were carrying the president.

14. Actually, it was "Navy One."
No way a Navy Viking is going to use the call-sign "Air Force!"

I've read that the 747 that is known as Air Force One when it has the chimp on board will be taking Ronnie to DC.

The whole cost for Ronniepalooza is $20 Million.

WE get to spring for it.

Thanks Ronnie! One more Fuck you! from beyond the grave.

The 707 was purchased by the library (probably at a VERY reasonable price) to be housed and displayed on the grounds.
