Pet Owners and Flattery
For some reason, pet owners feel obliged to accept compliments on behalf of their dog or cat. You cannot overdo it!

All purebred dogs are beautiful to their owners. "Oh my," you say. "Isn't he just so special." And the owner fondly regards the animal and then looks back at you, saying, "Why yes, he is."

No dog kept as a pet is ordinary. Every dog has some unique quality that only a truly discerning outsider can perceive. "Oh my," you say. "He's just so . . . lively." Pet owners shyly grin, indicating that you've found a soft spot.

When I'm out shopping, I make a practice of offering to buy the store's cat and hinting that I'll pay up to $100. Nobody has ever taken me up on the offer, but the looks I've gotten combine pleasure at the offer with an element of horror that Boomer might be considered part of the inventory.

Any dog is worthy of praise, I've found. If the dog is ugly, cantankerous, lazy and bad-smelling, there's still something good to be said. "Oh my," you say. "He's just like one of the family." And the owner fondly regards the animal and then looks back at you, saying, "Why yes, he is."

1. My dog useed to lie on the couch and stare at people.
In the wierdest "I know what you're up to way."

"Your dog's freaking me out." - They'd say.

"Why yes he is" was my reply

2. Will You Sell Him?
I've been looking for a dog that does that. They're just so . . . special. It could be worth up to $100 to you . . . depending on what I can get the wife to approve, y'see.

5. Alas poor Nicky has passed
MArking what was one of the saddest two weeks of my life. The fucking vet tried to keep convincing us to keep himi alive. SO, we had to sit there and watch the poor guy tremble and shake from whatever was wrong with him. As well, we got to sit there and see him shit blood, just wanting to put him down. I took him down one moring, mustering all the strength I had in me, only to drop him off thinking he was gone for good. But nOOO the vet said again she could help him. Two days later I lifted Nick into my bed with me and spent what was his last night alive cuddled together.
At 6:00 am he wanted out, so I let him out. I could hear his whiny cries of pain from whatever the problem was. My father took him to the vet a soon as it open and demanded that FUCKING idot vet put him down immediately.
Stupid fucking moron...I'd should report her.

Okay now I'm upset.

12. Some Perspective
It's hard for a vet to know what's the right thing to do. Some people want a heroic intervention even when it's hopeless. Others just want to see an end to the animal's suffering. You and your dog had many happy years together. That's a more positive perspective than remembering a vet's wrong decision to keep a suffering animal alive.

20. Report the hell out of her to the Vet Board, HEyHEY!
SHe caused that poor animal undo pain, when all you wanted was to put your buddy down since he was in such pain. Did you know you can sue Vets for Malpractice? It's hardly ever done, but it can be done.

8. The Egyptians Worshiped Them
That's a very fine looking black cat. I understand they are usually Siamese, and quite talkative. That one looks like it has plenty to say.

23. Burmese Cats
I'd been only dimly aware of Burmese cats until now, probably because they are rare. It's probably good that their owners are keeping them a secret because it keeps them from being interbred like Dalmatians. They are very beautiful, and they have wonderful personalities. Here's one who does not suffer from low self-esteem:

11. I Love Moe
I can tell Moe has good character. He may not understand everything that goes down, but he's 100% loyal. A very clean dog.

17. Moe is about 8 months old...
He is the sole survivor of his litter. He is a tough little guy and very curious, everything thats missing can usually be found in Moe's spot. He has also become very good at digging up moles in the yard.

14. It is tough. I lost my Casey this morning. She was 13 and died
at home, possibly from a stroke.
Last week our cat, 6 years old, was killed by a car in front of our house.
I know what you mean.

19. You made him happy....
For 15 years and while it was a hard thing to do, it would have been selfish to let him continue to suffer. I am glad you made the right decision and put your friends need ahead of your own.
Darn, now I have tears welling up in my eyes thinking about it.

7. Well, smelly-dog certainly applies to my two boys!
But they are flea-free and tick-free. They are lavished with just the basics: food, water, and medicine. But at night, they hip-hop into the beddy-bye and we sleep like logs. I do love those little boys!

10. In Rural Ireland
In rural Ireland, dogs and cats aren't pets, they're ordinary animals like any other. You would not have the dog in the house any more than you'd have a chicken in the house.

There's no way that they would sleep with a dog. That is totally undefined.

15. See? Maybe that is why so many Irish have come to the US
they want to sleep comfortably at night without the bleeding nosy neighbors talkin about them.

16. My Mom's Attitudes
Through the years my Mom's attitudes towards animals were, well, unsentimental. Now that she's old, she values the companionship that the cat brings her. In her mind, the value of an animal was its usefulness. Now she sees them differently. I think she loves that cat, but she still won't admit it.

I have never seen a cat smile. If yours does, it's truly rare and unusual.
