Poll question: How much make-up do you usually wear?
A question for the women, but men can answer too if they wear make-up (and some do).

I just dropped some major change replacing old make-up. It seems like an indulgence but I feel I need it for interviewing. All I got were face basics; I'm sensitive to most brands so I spend more on face stuff, but have no problem with buying eye and lip stuff from the drugstore.

I wear enough make-up to look normal under fluorescent lights. For evening I wear a little more. I don't wear any at home or when I do errands, shopping, etc. but I know some women who won't step out of the house without full Kabuki mask. I also know young women who maintain a Goth or semi-Goth look no matter where they go. What's your routine?

1. none and none and none
I hate the way it feels on my skin. Haven't worn any since high school and that was quite a while ago.

3. I attended a focus group last night about makeup!
It makes for an interesting story:

(For the record -- I wear a little to work and for social occasions, nothing most other times.)

12. That was great!
I too have sat behind the two-way mirror on many occasions and can tell you that the more outrageous the replies, the better I like it because a)most people are afraid to speak up and b)I get very sleepy sitting in the dark.

The worst groups are for any foods that moms serve to kids, because the moms try to one-up each other in being holier-than-thou: "I only give my kids carrots and apple slices after school." (Perhaps; but you've eaten three cookies from the sidebar, so stop skewing the group!)

6. I wear as little as I can get away with
Mainly at work, and the rare times that I hit the clubs. I just don't like it and fortunately, have never needed that much anyway. Days when I'm feeling under the weather or have those dark circles going after a long night, I might use a little more.

Rarely do I wear anything, however I will admit to a bit of vanity. I will use a bit from time to time to cover up the dark circles under my eyes.

8. I wear a light liquid foundation and a little powder blush
I mostly wear the foundation because it protects the skin and keeps me from getting wrinkles and hides the occasional blemish. Then I have to add a little blush just to make myself look more realistic. The last time I wore lipstick was for the Bartcop benefit for Julie Height-Steele in April 2001. So I guess you have to stand up to the Republicans before I'll put on lipstick for you.

I get prettied up to go to Temple on the High Holy Days.
I'll get prettied up for a wedding or similar event.

Otherwise, NO FING WAY! I hate it. My hubby doesn't like it when I wear it either. My son just looks at me funny.

11. Just the basics really, - and that depends on the weather.
In a steady rain, most all cosmetics are washed away quickly.

I've got pretty good skin, so mostly just a lipstick and some pressed powder is enough.

17. Used to wear less. But now that I'm old...
Listen, people, the first thing to go are the eyes! They sag from the top and bag from the bottom, no matter what you do to prevent it. I have one eye that's sagged more than the other, so now I have to apply the "Parthenon Principle" to my own face in order to attain symmetry. So I shape my left eyebrow to make it look higher, and highlight the eyelid in such a way that my eye looks larger. Thank God I took art classes as a kid!

Anyway, young thangs, maybe by the time you hit the half-century mark, there'll be better, non-surgical options for ya. (Don't go under the knife--why cut open a healthy body and leave it at risk for infection or improper anathesia?). In the meantime, makeup really does help.

19. I'm very near sighted and wear big glasses. To keep my eyes from
disappearing behind those lenses, I use dark blue eye liner, black mascara, a very subtle brown shadow in the crease of the lid, sun blocking foundation, and lip pencil...

I'm cheap though. I get good quality make-up in the colors I like, but if I were to replace everything I use all at once, it would probably cost me less than $20.00.

It reminds me of the people who lived in the fallout shelter in "A Boy and His Dog".

Although once I went to a Halloween party and my sister applied make-up as a "normal" person would wear. Some of my friends walked right by me - they didn't recognize me.

23. I am one of those women
who really does need to wear make-up to look good. My skin is blotchy, my eyebrows somewhat patchy, and my eyelashes thin and straggly. So I do not leave the house without any, but I don't apply it with a heavy hand.

For dress-up evenings, I'll add eye shadow, maybe some eyeliner.

42. That's me too.
I wear it subtly, but I need all of it. I have good skin, but it's patchy. I need coverup-- reflect.com has a great one. Plus this shimmery sort of foundation from Revlon, and a tan colored loose pwder to give me some color. I'm entirely too pale.

I frighten small children if I don't wear some form of eyeliner. My eyes become practically invisible, and I've actually been asked if I'm sick if I don't wear any! I buy the black liquid kind. Pencil is worthless and rubs right off. I wear a granite colored shadow which makes my eyes look great. And some mascara.

For special occasions I wear blush and lipstick and use a heavier hand, but not usually.

24. I am the makeup queen
I spent tons of money on makeup and we're not talking the cheap stuff either. I have enough makeup that if I quit buying makeup I'd still have enough to last me for about 2-4 years.

Needless to say when I wear makeup I don't put that much on me. I just love lots of colors!!

The only time I even attempt it is SOMETIMES when I'm going somewhere special with my hubby (and with three small kids, that rarely happens). Even then, I wear so little that you can barely tell I'm wearing any. I'm not a make-up person at all ... never have been.

28. Every morning I put it on
Foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow, eyebrow stuff, liner, mascara, lipstick. The only time I don't is when I'm not planning to go anywhere.

I have good skin, but I'm very pale and my features only pop if I have make up on.

I use a heavier hand when I go out on the town or for a special occasion.

I voted "none, ever" but that isn't quite true. I wore makeup last Halloween as part of my costume and I wore makeup at a convention a couple of years ago the night of the "Order of Glitter" party. I'll wear it for extremely special occasions when I want to look fun and funky.

33. I usually wear war paint to work
That's how I jokingly refer to it. I am tired in the morning so it helps to wear make up around my eyes. I wear mascara, eye liner, and eye shadow, usually grey, green, or brown. I used to wear foundation and powder. Maybe, I need to a professional to help me pick a good product, but I have trouble matching my skin tone and it seems to make my skin look drier. I go light. I put up with enough crap from the guys at work as it is. If I am really tired and running late though and don't get around to putting it on, I don't worry too much.

35. Blush and chapstick
If I don't wear the blush, people ask me how long I've been sick. I can't abide the feel of foundation on my skin and I instantly chew lipstick off (can't stand the feel of it). If I wear eye makeup, I forget about it, rub my eyes, and end up with raccoon eyes. So I only wear mascara and eyeliner on rare occasions (and always end up with raccoon eyes). I never wear any kind of foundation or powder; I think that stuff ruins your skin. I'm 44, I can't wear it now anyway, that stuff collects in wrinkles and exaggerates them.

It's too much trouble for me to put on makeup in the morning; I'm always tired and in a hurry and don't want to take an extra five minutes. So I brush on a little blush and use my chapstick.

39. Just the basics
Since going to college, I've started to wear more makeup (which isn't saying much because I wore NONE previously). Nowadays, I usually wear a light liquid to powder foundation, eye shadow, lipstick, and on crazy sunny days, some blush. But seeing as how it hasn't stopped raining...I've been going easy on the stuff.

40. Not very much
I always have to use under-eye concealer; otherwise I look like I haven't slept in days no matter how well-rested I am. And I religiously use my moisturizer and lip gloss with sunscreen. On normal days I add powder and mascara; on days when I'm teaching or at a conference, I use light foundation, blush, and lipstick too.

41. Other
I've almost never worn makeup for work ... only for presentations, or special customer visits.

For special occasions, I'll wear some mascara and some blush, maybe some concealer if I have blemishes. Powder off the shine on my nose, a little on my face.

Sometimes I'll add a little eye pencil for my lower lashes.

I never could get the hang of eye shadow, and even if someone else does it for me, I look funny with it on!

For day to day and around the house, I don't use any makeup.
