Computer folks, gotta question
i'm completely computer illiterate, but let me TRY to explain my situation... just got a new computer, and hooked up a wireless router to the back and found out that i was getting someone else's connection in my building (at 11.0 Mgps)... i was pleased...

well this morning, it said i no longer had a connection (to that one) though my internet was still working SUPER fast... wasn't sure how i was even connected to the internet. so one of my friends came over and did some looking around on my computer and found out that i was picking up something called a 1394 net adapter (at 400.0 Mgps)... not sure what that is, but it was incredibly fast. well he did something to the settings (for one, enabling back the other slower connection) and now my computer will only pick up the slower original wireless connection at 11.0 Mgps -- though my computer still says i'm connected to the 1394 connection...

anyone know what the problem is?

Getting someone else's connection. I ought to try that... O8)

I hate wireless myself (you said why  but not for that reason, though it's related...) but I'd say somebody else has a wireless tranceiver that connects into their PC's IEEE1394 firewire port that you're connecting into...

that's just a guess, wireless isn't my 'thing'.

2. should be no problem
IEEE1394 AKA FireWire is just a way to connect hardware to your computer.
I'm not so sure about using someone else's connection though .

4. OK
Just remember that an open wireless connection is a severe security hazard (even a encrypted one is). Use a good presonal firewall and don't send your credit card number ;-)-
