RONALD REAGAN DEAD AT 93: PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT ON THE DECADE-LATE DEATH OF THAT DEPENDS®-WEARING HOLLYWOOD PHONY WHO EVERYONE LIKED WAY MORE THAN THE BUSHES
Statement by the President

THE PRESIDENT: Ronald Reagan always told us that for America, the best was yet to come. I know, I know – leave it to a fruity actor to find a life philosophy in a Sinatra song, right? But let me tell you something – he was right. Because after him came Bushes. And one day soon, after Poppy's term and my two terms and Jebber's two terms and Marvin's two terms – and hell, maybe even Noelle's terms – we'll rename that Reagan airport and aircraft carrier after us, slap our family portrait on the zillion dollar bill, and bulldoze that geriatric asswipe's legacy right off the face of the public consciousness!

In closing, it is with a heavy heart that I recall that Ronnie was not a born-again evangelical Christian like I say I am, but a divorced fair-weather believer who tried, but never quite got the hang of using Jesus for political gain. So as I told Nancy in my phone call to her from Air Force One's mechanical bull, "It's always sad when the unsaved begin their treacherous journey towards the gaping mouth of Hell's eternal bar-b-que."

And so, let us bow our heads in recognition that Mr. Reagan has slipped the girly bonds of Earth to kiss the face of Satan.

Thank you, and God Bless Bush America.

2. One can (and should) criticize foul and bone-headed comments ...
About the dead without being a 'supporter' ...

3. Just out of curiosity...
why is it bad to say the same things about a dead man that you'd say when he was alive?

5. Well, whether a comment is mean or not is subjective ...
But that isnt my point: I expect my closeest friends to act civilized, and not reduce themselves into blathering idiots ... it doesnt mean I dont love them ... and it doesnt mean the object of their extreme derision isnt worthy of condescension ...

Reagan was AWFUL, and saying so is fine: but when we see some posters reduce themslves to adolescent name-calling, then admonishment is a proper response ....

Even THEN: it doesnt mean one 'supports' Reagan ....

Demanding the highest standards for our OWN in DU doesnt translate into support for our opposition, which is the rhetorical equivalent of the Bush people calling the anti-war movement "Saddam Lovers" ...

4. True, and a couple of observations...
I posted the satire from whitehouse.org because for me...just my personal opinion...the true "foul and bone-headed comments" have been the ones originating from the Bush administration, in which the re-election campaign has blatantly attempted to hitch its wagon to the back of the Reagan motorcade.

It was apparent in statements of "condolences" from Condoleeza Rice and Bush himself in which their acknowledgment of Reagan's "legacy" seemed uncannily similar to Bush's own frequently repeated talking points on his own "good work." I found that to be obscene, and so did at least one member of the Reagan family...more on that in a moment.

The whitehouse piece...tastless or foul or boneheaded as it may be to some...centers its satire NOT in the bashing of a fallen man but in the "opportunism" of those who would use his death to further their agenda.

The "fake article" is written from the viewpoint of Bush. It is a commentary by the writer at whitehouse.org on HIS (perceived) attitude toward Reagan.

Finally, in my opionion...just my opinion, which I present in the same spirit in which I am respecting yours...is that George W. Bush will, between now and November, attempt to assimilate the life and accomplishments of Ronald Reagan into his own "Borg Collective" re-election campaign. Check DU and the Web in general for Ron Reagan Jr.'s feelings toward Bush. I believe those feelings are similar to the attitude of the "fictional Bush" stance taken in the whitehouse piece. That's why I posted it...not to disrespect the dead, but to give proper credit to someone who most certainly IS.

The "supporter" remark was for those who choose not to read ANY negative and / or disrespectful comments regarding Reagan, no matter what the context. I've explained my intention in posting to the best of my ability. The whitehouse satire was extreme, perhaps tasteless...read "Bush's Brain" and "Boy Genius" for more examples of that kind of behavior.
