What's the Most Disgusting Thing You've Ever Seen On Television?
For me it was when Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theisman's leg on Monday Night Football. Snapped it like a twig. My father ran to the bathroom to throw up after seeing it.

What televised image nearly made you blow chunks the first time you saw it?

4. You nailed it
Theisman's leg is the worst thing I ever saw.

Although the following week, Letterman had a Joe Theisman pencil sharpener on his desk. His leg was the handle. That was pretty funny.

Theisman's leg was a bad one, but he survived.
I have in mind the clip of the racehorse (name escapes me) who breaks a foreleg in the stretch and continues to run with the lower leg flopping in the breeze. Heart wrenching.

57. That was Go For Wand in the Breeder's Cup, truly heartbreaking
A phenomenal filly who was racing her heart out in the Breeder's Cup Distaff vs. Bayakoa, early '90s as I recall. Your description is completely accurate, woofless. Luckily I had the clicker in hand and turned the channel almost immediately, that flopping foreleg looking like jello but the filly too proud and too fast to stop.

That incident was much more gruesome than Ruffian's life-ending breakdown in the Belmont Park match race vs. Foolish Pleasure in July 1975. Ruffian's jockey dismounted quickly and held up her shattered leg while waiting for the equine ambulance. It was one of the saddest sports moments ever on live TV. I'm surprised no one had mentioned it.

9. R. Budd Dwyer
I came home from work and was up in the kitchen eating a big plate of pasta while watching the news down in the den. I couldn't hear the sound so I didn't hear the warning. While shoving a large helping of my pasta in my mouth I caught this whole thing. All other channels stopped right when ol' Budd shoved the barrel in his mouth, but the one I saw didn't.

20. Oh, God, I forgot about Dwyer
That might be my new leader for 'most disgusting'.

For the record, "Hey Man Nice Shot" by the band Filter is about Dwyer. A lot of people think it's about Kurt Cobain, but it's really about Dwyer (Jeff is friends with a couple of guys in Filter).

When confronted, his answer was Dwyer...but I think most people figure it is about Cobain.
As I said about this one as being disgusting...it was the food I was eating in conjuncture with someone's brains being splashed all over a wall, that I had to pick this one.

news one night they say "those with weak stomaches might not want to watch this". Well it was sports so I thought how bad can it be.
It was a hockey game where one player skated into the goalie and sliced his throat open with his skate blade. There was a great deal of blood. I should have listened to the sports announcer.

14. Similar to Theisman...
There was a pedestrian bridge that collapsed somewhere in Europe as a large throng of people were leaving some sort of sporting event, this was a couple years ago now. As the news usually does, they showed footage from a distance of people getting hurt, but you couldn't really make anything out. For whatever reason they then zoomed in and showed a bunch of people on the bank, many of them with injuries similar to Theisman's.

When you watch football you kind of expect that thing, but these people were just casually walking back to their cars when alll of a sudden their leg gets twisted backwards three times.

22. A fetus in fetu.
I saw it the other day on Discovery Health. A 7 yr. old boy from Kurdistan (or somewhere similar sounding) had a growth removed from his abdomen. Turns out the growth was his twin, who had been malformed, and at a very early embryonic cell stage, was absorbed into the embryonic cells of the living boy.

This growth attached to the living twins' bloodstream, and was a parasite, continuing to grow (inside his abdomen) throughout the pregnancy and childhood.

They showed it and it had structures resembling legs/feet, a very primitive and grotesquely deformed face, and, the creepiest thing, REALLY long hair! They cut it open, and there were no internal organs or anything, just a mass of tissue.

It was truly the most disgusting thing I'd ever seen on television.

33. forgot about budd
Yep ... that was in the top 3, for sure. Budd Dwyer, just to be clear, was a long-time PA pol (state house and senate; when he died he was state treasurer). He was convicted of taking kickbacks on awarding of a gov't contract. The press conference was in Harrisburg. I watched it on TV in the newsroom in which I worked at the time; he pulled a gun out of a manilla envelope -- people at the press conference were screaming, "No, Budd, NO!" ... and he put the gun in his mouth and blew his brains out and collapsed to the floor with a thud. Truly, truly disturbing.

I saw a really disgusting music video about at about 3 a.m. on B.E.T. recently. I'm no prude at all, but this was beyond the pale for basic cable, I think. Can't remember the name of the song. Lots of bikini-clad women lifting their legs and sticking their crotches right in the camera. Humping on each other's crotches and butts. Humping on the men. There was also a guy sliding his credit card between a woman's naked butt cheeks. Gross and pointless. If I had kids, I wouldn't want them seeing it.

CBS's one-time showing of the people throwing themselves out of the burning World Trade Towers on 9/11 was pretty awful.

But yeah, Dubya's inauguration made me more sick to my stomach than any of the above.

Got home from work, and my son turned on the telly, and there were two bullet-ridden bodies on the screen.

Not only was it visually disgusting, but it was also disturbing to me that the U.S. government was displaying dead bodies as though they were trophies--all during afternoon broadcasting hours, when many children are unsupervised.

Imagine the many children who returned home from school that day who saw those images and had no adult at home to comfort them.

Disgusting.
