GOP Primary Winner Dies On Day Of Vote

PENNS GROVE -- A local man died Tuesday, the same day he won the Republican primary to run for borough council.

James X. Farish, 74, died at 3:57 p.m. in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, said Joann Kruszewski, a longtime friend. Nan Myers, a hospital spokeswoman, confirmed that he died Tuesday.

He had been battling cancer, friends said.

Friends said the community was close to his heart.

"Jim loved our town of Penns Grove, where he was raised" said Frank Santucci, president of the Reagan Republican Club of Penns Grove.

It was unclear what his death means for the upcoming municipal election.

Farish received 48 votes Tuesday to win his party's nomination to run for a one-year unexpired term on borough council in the November General Election.
