My car was stolen last night -- in front of my bedroom window!

When I got up this morning to come to work, I had trouble finding my keys and was a bit groggy. No problem, I found them in yesterday's pants pockets. I walked outside thinking what a nice morning it is, and then I notice when I open my gate: there is NO car there!

Where is my car? I have no idea. After a moment of insanity in which I question if I really correctly recall coming home and parking it there the day before (it's always good to question oneself), I realize that thievery is the only possible explanation.

So in the past hours, I've called the highway patrol, my insurance company (luckily I'm fully insured), obtained a rental car (luckily fully covered), called my credit union, and filled out pages of paperwork on the incident. I've also had to call places I had maintenance, since I need that to boost the value of the vehicle for insurance purposes, and I kept those documents in my glove compartment. Advice to self in future: DO NOT keep car documents in the car, except those legally required!

I'm pretty miserable, but hopefully it'll turn out all right...

I have no idea who did it, but I've had my mail stolen in the past months and so have my neighbors. There are always cop cars across the street at this apartment complex. Hopefully the thieves only wanted to get from point A to point B and will dump it somewhere unharmed!

6. I was gonna ask if it was a Civic...

I knew a guy that had a set of keys he could start any Civic with. He just jammed the key in, jiggled it, and it started right up.

On the bright side, they would just rip out all of the audio stuff and ditch it very soon. You aren't going to find out who did it, because the cops won't fingerprint the car unless a felony was committed in it.

20 bucks says you're car turns up with all of the speakers and stereo gone...I doubt they will keep it. It's just some meth addict freaks wanting your stereo. So maybe you will get a new stereo out of the deal...it's not so bad!

And no, I dont hang out with that guy anymore.

10. I suspect meth too...

I live in the city once known as "meth capital of the US." The people across the street are into that, I can tell. However, it's strange because I only have a stock stereo and crappy speakers in the car. I have a CD player in the trunk though. Well, I've just got to let go of it now, because there's nothing I can do!

Just remeber there are certain brands that theives prefer. Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and so on. I drive a Mistubishi Mirage which is comparable to the Honda Civic but not as stolen. If you are going to purchase another car, get a list of the most stolen and try and avoid those cars. Also get a lock that goes on the car brakes attached to the floor. These are harder to undo as compared to the bogus club that goes on the steering wheel. Also pop for an electronic security system. These things will help reduce the chances your car is stolen.

8. The guys I knew who dtole cars would avoid the harder ones..

If it had a security system, they would move on to an easier one. Even just getting a decoy with a blinking red light would help alot.

And the club does deter people. They will just find an easier one to get. ALso, ignition locks ar great...they go into your ignition and they have a seperate lock that is almost impossible to pick. They are really cheap.

I saw my car drive away from the front of my house, too.

Know any psychics? A weirdo gf of my downstairs neighbor got in her car, and using her alleged psychic abilities, found my car, abandoned, about a mile from my house. I guess the young punks took it joy-riding.

BTW, don't feel stupid about the papers--I actually had my wallet in my car!

You may still find it, but don't expect help from the police. Maybe drive around your neighborhood??

9. Same thing happened to me about 3 years ago

1993 Toyota, of all things to take. Taken right out of my driveway. Never saw it again. Totally sucked -- I loved that car. But, it'll all work out. Just a word, in case there was anything in your glove box with your ss number on it, call the credit reporting bureaus and get a fraud alert put on your credit files. That way if anyone tries the old identity theft thing, they'll be thwarted.

popular-to-steal models if you can when you purchase a replacement, consider getting a standard transmission. Thieves won't touch those.
