trof's driving tips: #2.
It is neither unconstitutional, illegal, unpatriotic, nor wimping out to override your cruise control.
Honest. You could look it up.

Let's say you're doing a nice solid 72 mph, and you see that you're s-l-o-w-l-y nearing an 80 foot long double trailer 18 wheeler in front of you.
He's doing 71.995 mph. The laws of physics indicate that you'll eventually pass him, so you move into the passing lane.

Just as your front bumper is abeam of his rear bumper, you notice a car in your rearview mirror that appears to be getting bigger and bigger. (That would be me.)

What this means is that I AM GOING FASTER THAN YOU ARE. IT'S OK...IN FACT IT IS THE DESIRED ACTION THAT YOU PUT YOUR DAINTY LITTLE FOOT ON YOUR ACCELERATOR AND BUMP IT UP ABOUT 5 MPH AND GET AROUND THE EFFING TRUCK AND THEN LET ME PASS.

Thank you.
:grr:

3. LA, MS, AL...I-10
Idiots!
They're everywhere.
An 18 wheeler got all 9 right wheels WAY over into the breakdown lane, then swerved back. As we passed, Miz t. looked up at him.
"Yep. I thought so. He's talking on a celphone."

2. That's why I love the cruise control in my Subaru
it has a switch that lets you bump your speed up or down 5mph at a touch without turning the c.c. off. It comes in very handy when you just want to get around someone or let them get around you, or need to slow slightly for an offramp or merge. You can either bump it just while you're holding it, or permanently increase/decrease the cruise speed by 5mph increments.

It is AMAZING how much gas you can save by using cruise whenever traffic permits. I can get at least 30 more miles to the tank by using it, consistently.

I do hate people who don't accelerate to pass. It's dangerous. Just pass and get it over with, okay? It is actually legal to briefly exceed the posted speed limit in order to pass another vehicle. At least in this state, it is.

4. Been there, trof - specifically on I-10
That interstate is a wasteland! Fortunately, there are very, very few "cruise control" roads here that have any traffic on them!

5. And that pickup truck in YOUR rearview mirror would be me, trof!
Yeah, I've got a bit of a lead foot...

6. I really try to be considerate.
A cop tolD me that they'll more-or-less spot you 10% over the posted limit. So I do 77-78 on a 70 limit interstate. If I see you're whizzing up my ass, I MOVE OVER! I'll even (momentarily) move behind slower moving traffic to let you blow by. IF I have to kill my cruise and SLOW for you to pass and let me out of the box...YOUR BAD!

I'll go up to 80-85 to not let that happen to the car I'm passing.

8. My brother-in-law says
"Screw 'em. I stay in the right lane and do 65. Let'em all pass ME."
Simplistic, I think.

9. Hardhead's Rule #1 for Tailgaters
The closer you get to my butt, the slower I will go just to piss you off. I love having this power over obnoxious people. As you lean on the horn, I'll take my time getting into the slow lane. When at last I'm out of your way and you speed indignantly on your way, I'll give you a big smile and wave as I say, "Fuck you very much!"
