Jennifer Love Hewitt's mind is impervious to sarcasm
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 10:33 PM by jpgray
She outlasted an eight minute assault of funny from Jon Stewart and managed to keep up the ditzy 'is he being serious? I'd better laugh or people will think I'm an idiot' expression. Good show tonight though. :)

(and as Stewart says, wasn't Garfield popular in the eighties?! That movie will righteously bomb)

3. Garfield did, in fact, die in the Eighties.
That was his least productive interview since the Spice Girls. And for those who remember that, comparing the two says a lot about Hewitt.

(that goes for both Jen and the Spice Girls)

5. Yes, and I can't date any other kind
I remember once telling a pal I'd 'cut his brake lines' if he didn't take a shift for me in front of a girl I was dating and she 'couldn't believe' I 'felt so strongly about it'. NOTHING is more of a turn-off than a vacuous, humorless personality.

8. I agree
Especially for those of us who work in the medium of smartassery.

I've been told off by humourless girls more often than any other type of person. Always for a harmless joke.

I would guess you do have some experience with humorless people. :P

16. I saw that!! Actually, tried to ignore it, but still caught some of it ..
I couldn't imagine how she kept a straight face, being interviewed by a guy dressed in a cow suit! My kids didn't even laugh ... although they're young ... hopefully it didn't do any lasting damage.

17. Are you kidding?
I'm guessing you completely missed her return sarcasm, "Well, this has been just lovely", after about the fifth dig Stewart made on the movie she was there to promote. She's not an idiot, she knew what was going on.

Also, if you aren't aware of it, she and Stewart actually worked together on an animated movie, The Adventures of Tom Thumb & Thumbalina. When he called Bill Murray a whore for money for doing the voice of Garfield, she was gracious enough not to point out that he had done the same thing himself, for a bad, direct to DVD kiddy flick no less.

18. But that's the point--Stewart does absurdist humor
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 11:02 PM by jpgray
He throws out completely wacky statements and non sequiturs just to bring the funny--and she took them a little too seriously. For example, he doesn't really think that Bill Murray is a whore for money, and he doesn't really want to have his dog eat hers. These statements are so ridiculous that he expects no one will take them seriously. And I find that style of humor to be amusing, and I find Hewitt to be a ditz. Ronald Reagan died for those freedoms, and I plan to use them at every opportunity.

20. You missed my point entirely
She was being sarcastic right back at him, thus proving her mind was not impervious to sarcasm, just not impressed with it. Big difference. Plus, there is nothing absurdist about Stewart's sarcasm, amusing as it can be. Study some Graham Chapman, then get back to me in the morning.

BTW, I normally find The Daily Show hysterical, particularly since I personally know a couple of the correspondents and writers. But the interview broke the first rule of comedy, it just wasn't funny. It just looked as if he didn't like her personally. Which is fine, but don't expect me to hail it as comedy genius.

22. I don't find her attractive
Her looks are often average, and her personality is annoying. She means well, so I can't despise her - but even worse than the imperviousness to sarcasm is the fact she's said she likes Bush.
