3. First program to show *positive* relationships between
gay and straight men. God forbid that we show gay and straight men laughing together, hugging each other, or having amicable relationships (gasp :wow:).

All of the above you say? Please see "Will and Grace" for vapid sterile gay men. I'll take QEFTSG any day.

Why is it that some straight men here are obsessed with this show? :eyes:

<end of rant>

5. Don't call me straight.
I am a practicing heterosexual, but I would never claim to be "straight". Sounds so narrow.

There's not much in this world I haven't tried...

I'm not really sure what I think of QEFTSG, but I find it enjoyable on occcasion. I like the campy theme song, and they have some great hints that I never would have thought of.

But that grooming guy and his obsession with "shaving WITH the grain"...geez, gimme a break. I LOVE to shave against the grain - it never killed anybody.

6. All of the above...
Simply because people will see in it what they want to see.

Ignorant homophobes will use it as fuel for their hatred and bashing.

Some will see the varying personalities of the five guys as counteracting the stereotypes...

Some will see Carson's mannerisms as 'stereotypically gay' and claim that the show is 'reinforcing the stereotype'

What you see so often matches what you expect to see, does it not?

8. It's a fun show
that's purely entertaining. And it's nice to see "reality-based programming" where people aren't humilitating each other to win the most money.

And the previous poster is right. People will see what they want to see.

9. Yes, sometimes the guys are stereotypes
but, give me a break, don't you know any queeny gay men? I do. I also know ones who are more like Thom or Ted - no more affected in their mannerisms than anyone else. I think the show is extremely positive in one regard; it shows that 'straight' guys can be around gay men without the gay men coming on to them. For some reason, that seems to be the fear a lot of homophobes have; that they're so fucking irresistable that every gay person in creation is impelled by nature to try to screw them. As IF.

The show is quite frequently very funny, and one thing I do like is that they can have fun with the straight guys without really being mean or ridiculing them. Well, they do ridicule their grotesque lack of bathroom hygiene, but that's excusable!

I want a Flannel Dyke for the Straight Chick, where overly girly types are taught to check their oil, change their own tires, hook up their own stereos, etc.! I can't stand females who project helpless fluttering.

It's an hour long infomercical with gay men as your hosts. I've watched it a few times. I've never been a fan. What always sticks in my mind is the sight of the blond guy (I've never gotten their names) sniffing a guys underwear on the first episode. No!
