It seems we ask for advice for just about everything out there. Heck, I asked about how to get rid of a bat in my apartment (my cat ended up killing it).

So what advice do you think should NEVER be asked or posted about here at DU? Is there anything off-limits?

I asked about how to get rid of a bag in my apartment (my cat ended up killing it)

Most of the bags I get from the supermarket are already pre-killed, so I don't have the problem of them flying around the apartment. It's a good thing I don't. I'm squeamish about killing bags. Those high pitched noises they make when they die give me nightmares later on.

13. MEDICAL ADVICE

I can't tell you how many of these types of posts I've seen, one just recently. And I can't tell you how much bad, often DANGEROUS advice I've seen from people who mean well but don't know what they're talking about.

As a physical therapist, I do not feel comfortable discussing the nature of anyone's aches or pains over the Internet. That requires an actual medical history and physical examination.

Please, please, PLEASE... If you have a medical concern of any kind, call your doctor. If you believe it's of any severity whatsoever, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. For some things (e.g., strokes and heart attacks), seconds literally can mean the difference between life and death, and you'll be a lot better off not spending that precious time on Democratic Underground.

14. most of the time it's good to ask such advice

People often don't realize they should see a doctor when the condition is not an emergency and DUers generally tell them to do so, at least in my experience. Asking forum advice in an emergency is, of course, a bad idea. Any sort of trauma should be dealt with immediately.

And unfortunately I see too many instances where it IS an obvious emergency. And although, to be fair, I do see DUers offering reasonable advice for these people to get to an ER, I've seen too many others offer advice that can only be described as nutball.
