It used to irk me when the Pistons didn't get the respect they deserve...

...now I love it -- it's like a badge of honor.

I remember how frustrating it was to listen to Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown (who actually coached the Pistons once) on CBS when the Bad Boys slayed the Celtic and Laker sacred cows back in the late '80s -- but watching it happen all over again, despite their obvious dominance, has given me a new perspective.

Maybe it's the city's blue collar "bad" reputation, maybe playing defense is boring and unglamorous to some (I happen to love it) -- I don't care anymore.

When I read or hear the pundits and broadcasters and Faker fans continue to slag 'em, I don't get upset anymore.

It makes me happy. :)

Funny, Red Wings' equipment is stolen on road trips, fire alarms are triggered in hotels, etc. Happens in college football too -- especially Columbus when Michigan is there.

Besides the Townsend is very nice and virtually soundproof. I don't think the players suffered too much.

But I absolutely detest the Lakers and I don't want to see them win. I didn't think Detroit was going to give them much of a fight, but I admit that I'm pleasantly surprised with how they've shut the Lakers down.

your guys haven't been in the finals for 14 years.. The Spurs, the Lakers, the Rockets have been in the mix the last few years and therefore will get the most 'respect' as you say. Your guys have stepped up and got everyone's attention and good for them - they deserve it.

But why does everyone have to hate another team to like their own? I never get that - anyone who truly loves basketball respects any good player, team or coach.

Is it just me that does this? :shrug:
