If you're going to be transported to an unknown, potentially harmful environment, why does your landing party consist of your Capt., First Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Engineer, and pilot?

That would be kinda like the U.S. sending chimpy, Cheney, Powell, Asscroft, and Condi to "scout out" Baghdad for the incoming U.S.Army.
