Why would anyone who isn't Nancy be upset about the Hollywood Twit finally shuffling off his mortal coil? He's been completely out of the public eye for years, and hasn't done much of anything public since picking up a cool million from the Japanese right after leaving office (remember that?).

It's not like the sudden demise of assassination (Kennedy) or "accident" (Wellstone). It's not like the sudden death on vacation of a quadruply-elected icon (Roosevelt). If you asked the person on the street his or her opinion of Reagan on, say, May 20, you might have encountered more than one furrowed brow as people tried to recall if he was still alive.

But, in today's overheated media breathlessness, Freepers (who are more prone than most folks to emotional manipulation) have discovered depths of feeling usually reserved for a monster truck rally or a new episode of The Simple Life. They're surprised and a little scared that they could feel so intensely, and their good friend teevee is spurring them on to feel even worse.

And as usual when it comes to those crippled psychologically or physically, it's up to us bleeding hearts to deal with the fallout.
