My day at FreeRepublic
Here it is: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1151910/posts

I posted today on FreeRepublic because I was looking for some conservatives to have civil discussions with on my forum, www.liberalnet.com/forums. It has been great, I am a fan of lively debate, because, lets face it, when everybody agrees on a forum it is pretty dull.

So basically, I expected to be banned instantly, and I was not. Although I really feel like I don't belong there, they were not hostile or offensive. I even got a few DUers who were lurking there.

1. What Did You Post?
I posted a few things, some of which attracted little notice, some got "PINGed" and finally I was banned as a troll.

4. Good luck
there's a lot of piling-on at FR (just like at DU) and both places can sound like echo chambers after a while.

I think you will probably get banned because that, at the end of the day, is typically what will happen to anyone who does not post the party line on any emotional topic.

But good luck. I admire your tenacity; must seem like Margaret Mead exploring an exotic tribe ;-)

6. I read the Freeper posts
And the Freepers are not being totally honest with you. They most definitely "restrict" posting of anyone who dares to differ from them. Been there, done that. Then when they report you to the admin they continue to post horrible posts challenging replies, knowing full well you cannot.

If you want a real challenge, go into a forum, post your opinion and see how long you last.

I never used profanity or personal attacks. I just posted factual inquiries (be careful geneva convention is a phrase they detest!)and even went to the sites they provided to back up my position.

Letting them know you are a liberal won't bring much debate. They are too superior in their minds and to unsure in their hearts.

8. I doubt I will hang out there much.
First off, I can't stand the interface... I have no idea what is going on in their forum.

Second, I feel very out of place there.

I really just wanted to recruit a few conservatives from there who are willing to debate me on my forum. However, I could always use a few more liberals, just to keep it "fair and balanced." :)

9. I will visit your site
and join the forums. I love the exchange of ideas. That is how I mistakenly stumbled upon FR. I was enjoy the banter and they turned on me. It was spooky.

5. "I cannot think of a single past conservative that is now a liberal."
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 07:16 PM by LiberalVoice
You're looking at one... I was conservative til I was 18. Anti-Gay, Anti-Abortion. Anti-Liberal.

Now however, I cannot stomach conservatives or ANYTHING they stand for.
