Today is the day when everything came together just *perfectly*!!
The day started out with a trip to a garage sale to benefit the local animal shelter. I bought a few tchatchkes and then we had lunch. Then, as we drove home, a tiny streak of gray flashed in front of the car! I slammed on the brakes and we got out to see what had eluded us so narrowly.
It was a tiny 5 week old gray kitten! Can you imagine a better birthday present?! The Missus and I coaxed the shivering hissing scrap of feline defiance from under the sage bush where she had taken refuge. She is skin and bones!
That took up the rest of my free time. We got food, litterbox, etc and she is currently camped out in the back bathroom, having eaten her fill of good food and clean water. She has good sharp teeth and her eyes are still blue, so I estimate she's 5 or 6 weeks at the most. Her eyes show no sign yet of changing to their adult color.
The funny thing is... when the Missus asked me this morning "Honey, what would you like most for your birthday?" I had answered facetiously "Oh, a kitten would be nice!" Little Did I Know! :)
We will wait and see if Missus becomes allergic. If she does, then the tiny waif will have to be re-homed. But if she's OK, then the little blue-eyed rescue will have a wonderful place to stay and all the birds she can chatter at (behind solid glass, that is!) by our feeder.
I don't know which one is luckier... the kitten or me! Sing the praises of 4-wheel disc brakes and fast reflexes!
