The point isn't that we want to be friends with the Freepers (which I think you know perfectly well). The point is that it's nasty, immature, and completely un-liberal to make fun of people for how they look. It's fine for us to make fun of their stupid jingoistic shirts and their vicious opinions, but to judge them for the bodies and faces they were born with? I'm sorry, but I've been on the receiving end of that too many times, and it hurts no matter who does it. I've been called too fat, too skinny, been told my hair is ugly because it's thin, had people tell me I'm ugly, had friends who don't feel they're conventionally attractive tell me that I couldn't possibly have problems because I'm "pretty," and on and on. And so, I simply hate anybody who would criticize somebody's looks. And if you all think what you're doing in this thread is okay, I'll see if I can post pictures of the scars on my arms from all the times I've cut myself after being treated exactly as you're treating the people whose pictures are posted here. (But maybe I shouldn't, because you'd probably find some way to make fun of that, too.)

How do you know their clothes aren't clean? Sure, they're not exactly fashionable and have stupid slogans, but that doesn't mean they're not clean. And just FYI, people in real life don't have bright-white teeth like the people you see in movies and on TV. There's a difference between needing dental work (which it looks like some of them do) and not brushing one's teeth.

And for what it's worth, I used to work with a super-cool, super-liberal girl who would go two weeks without showering, and she looked and smelled fine. However, one of my best friends will get incredibly greasy if she doesn't shower every day, sometimes more.

I also see a lot more ridiculing of people here based on inherent qualities than on the things you've mentioned -- for instance, people who say some of the people pictured here don't look like the sex they belong to. I would encourage those people to read "Stone Butch Blues" if they think it's appropriate to punish people for not looking "manly" or "womanly" enough.
