Mystic River-WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???? *Spoiler Alert*

I'm sorry but this really upset me. I just saw the movie and I thought it was great up untill the end. Can someone who has seen this more than once maybe shed some light or something on the conclusion? it makes no sense whatsoever. Alls of a Penn's character's wife becomes miss smarty gangster and gives the impression that maybe just maybe she set up the daughter's killing? however the kids killing the daughter is also a plausible theory!

Then of course boom end of movie decide on your own with two very convincing cases and a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUUUUUUUGE new development with an even HUGER HOLE.

Fuck that I hate it when directors pull that bullshit I'm never watching another Eastwood movie just for that shit.

1. I think a lot of people were confused by the ending.

I watched it a couple of days ago and my take on it was that Jimmy (Sean Penn) got away with murder and that the real motives of the kids in killing Jimmy's daughter were tamed down by her boyfriend to prevent his brother getting a first-degree murder charge. I haven't read the book, but apparently in that Sean (Kevin Bacon) went after Jimmy to bring him to justice...in the movie it kinda feels like "well, he was messed up, anyway, so let's just forget about it" because it's apparent that Sean knows that Jimmy killed Dave (Tim Robbins).

2. I didn't get the sense that the mother set up her daughter's murder.

I think she knew that her husband killed Dave and she decided to stand by her man. Where do you get the impression that the mother did it?

3. I read the book but haven't seen the movie

but from what you people are saying, it sounds completely different. They don't tell you who killed her at the end of the movie?

4. Eastwood changed some things, I guess

I've neither read nor seen, but i heard he put some slams at Catholics and Democrats in the movie that were not in the book.
