Doncha' EVER get tired of the "hatred"?
Doesn't the consumption of regret and disappointment and cynicism, ever burn you out?

You know what I am talking about.

Will you EVER be satisfied and actually move beyond the graves of pain?

I wonder?

5. So,...you would hate me,...as a "pollyanna" type,...I take it.
I am bad,...for being,...nurturing, caring, loving, compassionate,...and all that.

Fine.

12. you sure think highly of yourself
If you are truly that superior, would you need the constant self-reassurance that you're really swell and everyone else is just mean and sucks ass? ;-)

When one takes it upon him or herself to remind others just how better they are than others, it makes me wonder what is missing at their core...

Truly compassionate folks don't make it a point to put others in their place, since the only reason people do that "putting" is to feel better about themselves. If you got it, you don't need to flaunt it.

But if it's just a trap meant to lure people so that you can attack them, then I think you should reconsider labeling yourself a pollyanna, Sweetness.

9. Funny- KMFDM just came on the radio as I read this.
Anyone who can think beyond themselves, is pissed off at those who try to control them.
Just tell me what the drug war was supposed to be all about. A lot of pissed off people just because some idealogues wanted to get their ways. Now they have their jail cells. Are they happy? No. They want more. And they continue. But not for Rush. This is the kind of stuff that we SHOULD be angry about. Take it to it's natural conclusion- Vlad the Impaler. Get over it? I think not!

but I could take a good guess where you're headed.

None of "us" will survive? Gee, that sounds like it was written with a whole bunch of "compassion." lol

I mean, do you already have the mass burial grounds prepared for "us?"

13. Let's put it this way. friend...
I don't have a freaking CHOICE about living with "regret and disappointment and cynicism."

The day this world moves beyond completely irrational fear of us evil queers, that's the day I will be "satisfied and actually move beyond the graves of pain."

Until then, you tell me what choice I have but to freaking hurt. Other than suicide, I mean -- which is out of the question.

19. I feel you.
Seriously. I think the thing that pisses me off the most about these holier-than-thou nanny threads is the condescending tone about them, like the feelings of anger and disenfranchisement and voicelessness are somehow a freaking choice.

I'm a queer, non-Christian woman of color living in an America hijacked by cryptofascist fundie Nazis. Sometimes I feel like rage is all I have.

23. some of us got some hate in us, so what? that don't make us bad
and maybe some of us have had this hate in us all along, and you just never noticed. i personally am full of hate, but not 'consumed and sick' from it, like some would like to think.

hate will be a factor in our nation's future. we must hate our oppressors.

believe it or not, for the original poster here, we can also contain love, compassion respect, dignity, empathy, etc., in our psyches at the same time. we don't hate 24/7, just when nazis have a big funeral

16. Hate makes you sick if you don't let it go.
Ask the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan monks that survived the horrors the Communist Chinese desecrated them with. Yet, they do not seek revenge and they do not hate. They actually feel sorry for their tormentors because of what is happening to their souls. We need to be more rational about this ourselves. It doesn't mean that we forget and not learn the lessons, but it means we move forward and not stagnate in a pit of self-pity, hate and evil deeds of retaliation. I know there will be flames for me saying this, but it's the way I feel.

Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 02:14 AM by REP
I know I sure do. The sickly-sweetness of the ever-so-better-than-thou; the strange contortions to pat one's own back over and over; the sheer tedium of hearing someone congratulate themself for being so wonderful.

21. i dont hate
it isnt personally in my life. sometimes i get sad at all the hate, yet hate is fear and fear an illusion. i understand it. it feeds, as we have seen in the last handful of years, at a point people are going to just have to understand that hate isnt going to fix a thing

maybe we will have to wait for our children to figure it out, but then many are teaching their children

Not until those bastards pay for everything they've done, from

they've killed.

25. We need to understand that hate is a NORMAL human emotion.
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 03:28 AM by playahata1
It has been such since the beginning of time, and it will be such until the end of time. Period. We cannot escape that fact, as much as we try to deny it.

As long as there are human beings who continue to be discriminated against and disrespected and disowned and displaced and dismissed and dispossessed and despised (I'm sounding a little bit like Don King here, if not Jesse Jackson.) because of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation -- for anything that is not considered "right" or "proper" or "normal" -- you can expect that there will be people within such groups who will "hate" right back at the "haters."

Right now, we progressive types and the ideals that we claim to espouse are the targets of hate by the fascists and the wannabe fascists. Can we honestly think that these people are going to change their minds about us if we just smile and hold hands and sing "Kumbaya," turn the other cheek, light a candle, release doves, wear flowers in our hair, etc? No, we cannot. Violence, rhetorical and/or literal -- AND I AM NOT ADVOCATING DEATH OR OTHER BODILY HARM TO ANYONE, GET THAT? -- is the only language that these people understand and respect. If they use it against us, we must be prepared to respond in kind.

As I have said in previous posts, even Martin Luther King -- who more than a few people both inside and outside this forum like to trot out as some apostle of "love" and "peace" and "righteousness" that everyone should follow -- realized that "love" and "nonviolence" had its limits. Near the end of his life he was no longer governed by the idealism and optimism of "I Have a Dream"; he concluded that America's conscience could not be swayed by appeals to the better angels of our nature and expressions of love in the face of hate. Fast forward more than 35 years later: we still have the "haters," and we still cannot reason with them by singing "We Shall Overcome" while getting our asses kicked literally as well as rhetorically.

We need to get our heads out of the sand and realize that there is a WAR going on in this country. And right now the "haters," who despise us and everything we claim to stand for, are winning. We must re-examine the weapons that we use to fight this war with.
