Ipod question
Ok, i've wanted an ipod for some time now and my birthday is next month so my hubby told he'd buy me one. I really like the looks of the mini but i don't how good the song quality is, i like the regualr one but i dont need space for 5,000 songs. My other question is about car kits, the ones i've seen are the type that requires a cassette player in the car stereo which in dont have so i'm wondering if is possible to retrofit a port for the usb cable?

Any advice would be appreciated.

1. Don't They Make FM Transmitters?
It seems to me that I've seen FM stereo transmitters that plug into the jack of CD players to allow the music to be played through the radio.

Someone else has to address the sound quality issue; I don't own one and have no idea.

radio transmitter. It fits on top of the pod and is the size of a lipstick.

That will transmit to your car stereo. Get this, it will also transmit to any stereo. No matter where I go I have my entire collection with me.

on edit - no cables required AND your pod can charge in the lighter simultaneously.

3. iPod Question
Unless you are going jogging with it buy the full size iPod, it'sd only 50$ more and holds 10x the songs. You may eventually need more space and the iPod is handy to have as an external portable hard drive anyway. You can buy kits to fit it into the auxiliarry port on your car stereo, but you would be better off buying a nice FM modulator and stand for your iPod, one that plugs into your car lighter and broadcasts an FM signal for your stereo to use. Don't go cheap with this though spend in the 40-50$ range.

9. Sound quality shouldn't be dependent on which iPod you buy
Since the music is a function of the encoding, and not the hardware.

The mini iPods are very nice and colorful, but as was mentioned above, the original iPod is only marginally more expensive and holds a lot more at the same time. Since it is also a portable drive, you could use the extra space to store addresses, movies, games, or lots of other stuff if you like. But if you can't think of how to use the space, the minis are very colorful looking

Griffin Technology makes an FM transmitter that fits right on top of either iPod and is said to make using it at other peoples' houses or in your car pretty easy. it provides an "all in one" looking solution for FM transmission for the iPods.

Enjoy.

10. The song quality should be the same on either.
I agree with the poster: go ahead and get the regular version. I use mine to store all kinds of files as well as music. I use mine in the car. I bought a Belkin transmitter and promptly returned it. No power, bad quality transmission and I had a hard time getting a clear station to link the iPod with. I spent $15 on a cassette adaptor and I get great quality sound.
You should also go to www.ipodlounge.com and search for the answer to your last question.

11. Just remember, you'll have to spend $99 in 18 months to have the
battery replaced. It's just like a cell phone, Ni-Cad battery goes bad after a year and a half, it loses it charge ability. But unlike a cell phone, you just can't run off and buy a spare at the store. You have to send in your iPod to Apple and have them replace the internal battery at a nice charge of $99. Be warned...
