1. Zyban worked for me matcom
I smoked a carton a week for 25 years. Zyban is brand name wellbutrin, an anti anxiety drug. It said to keep smoking for a week while taking it. I did. I noticed that I only wanted a cigarette every 4 or 5 hours. I thought it would be easy. I still went nuts the first day without any cigarettes at all.

did it make you feel weird?

hard to describe. kind of 'spacey' (yes, more so than normal :P )

don't know how else to describe. just feel kind of funny

oh and good morning :)

4. I gained 40 lbs too when I quit.
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 06:46 AM by bearfan454
I lost 80 last year and have gained 35 of them back. Between deer hunting, the holidays, football, eating like a pig and swilling beer it was real easy to gain 35 back.

10. I quit (the last time) a year ago and since lost 40.
I still managed to be incredibly self disciplined somehow.
You can do this Matcom! Good for you!

5. I just started on Wellbutrin this weekend.
It's the same as Zyban, but a lot cheaper and is covered by insurance. My insurance won't cover Zyban. But I'm still smoking, but I have sort of lost the desire for cigarettes. My doctor said it would take 2 weeks before it kicks in.

7. I couldn't take Zyban
It made me nervous and agitated, as do most anti-anxiety medications. Even Flexiril (sp?) makes me irritable.

11. While I didn't take Zyban
I quit smoking 8 months ago now. After smoking about a pack and a half a day for some 35-37 years. Felt strange, taste, smell etc affected for months after I quit. Still not sure I'm adjusted. If you want some quit smoking discussion sites, I got links.

15. Good morning!
Remember: don't say you are quitting smoking. You are now a non-smoker. It's a verbal trick, but I hear it works. Good luck!

18. Nicorette user here-
Sad thing is, I got hooked on the damn gum! My wife & I are coming off of a 3 week relapse, but we did manage to go 4 months without smoking. Congratulations to you, and good luck trying in the future!

19. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YEAH!!!! I am so excited. OK, I know only geeky oncologists get a vicarious tingle when their buddies hundreds of miles away go on Zyban and kick the habit, but...

YEAH!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

So here's my advice: YOU CAN DO IT! After all, you can do anything you put your mind to, right? The physical addiction takes 3-4 weeks to get past. The habit of smoking can take forever to get over, but you just need to find something else to put in your mouth. What exactly that might be, I leave up to you.

21. actually had a HORRIBLE night
wide awake with a fever until about 4:30 am. Can feel the Zyban kick in (when i do sleep the dreams are AMAZING)

anyway, just got up and called into work late/sick/depends. i'm on an antabiotic as well as Allegra as well as blood pressure meds and i got a feeling there are just too many prescripts flowing through my body (for a change)

anyway, am going to call the Dr and REMIND him everything i am taking before taking anymore or deciding whether to go into work.

just starting week 2 on Zyban and am down to about 5 cigs a day (not bad for a pack and a half 2 weeks ago)

anyways, will let you know what he says.

everyone is SURE this is worth it right? :) j/k of course

:loveya:

22. I kicked it so you could see the post from your sweetie Ramsey
She's excited about the news.

BTW, you never replied to my PM - is the Mrs. quitting too? It'll be so much easier if you 2 are both quitting.

Look at it his way - you love cooking and pretty soon you'll really start to enjoy the flavor bonanza when your taste buds reappear!

24. It is worth it.
Other than a tiny sniffle, I haven't been sick for a year and I used to get chronic bronchitis (just from my 3-7 cigs a day). And I have 3 kids at 2 different schools and a husband who works at a pediatric hospital. Smoking destroyed messed up my awesome immune system. Quitting got it back.

25. I didn't even last a week on Zyban. The first two days it
made me feel weird, like my brain was somehow separate from my body but I kind of liked it. By the 3rd day I was close to suicidal and on the 4th day, after speaking with my doctor I stopped taking it.

I know one other person who had the exact same reaction as I did and also quit taking it.

Supposedly only 2% of Zyban takers become suicidal so if you lasted a week and can deal with how you're feeling, good luck to you!
