what i wouldn't give for a brassiere that FITS
that doesn't pinch
that holds its weight without cutting into my shoulders
where the wires don't poke through the fabric
where my boobs don't fall out the bottom

1. My husband's grandmother
was a seamstress. She and her daughters were overly blessed with abundance, and so she used to alter her and their bras. Maybe you could find someone to do the same?

2. Amen sister! And I'm 'too' tall so the straps are never
long enough, even when fully extended, so I get cut into deep in the shoulders and underneath. First thing I do after work is RIP IT OFF!
Whew! That's better!

my hands! No wire, well maybe some pinching, no poking, and very supportive. And they need a job.

17. it's not the bounce, with me -- it's . . .
. . . the fact that w/out a bra, it looks like I'm wearing a deflated innertube (w/ a couple of raisins on the bottom) around my waist.

have special fitting days for those that have a hard time finding bras that fit them correctly. Call and ask when they're going to have
the one.

I mean, it might be a little pricey, but wouldn't it be worth it to have a bra that was custom fit to you?

I always slip those nasty wires out, though - I don't think its good to pinch or poke that delicate tissue.

12. I hear ya sister.
Most days now that I'm not working, I wear exercise tops. God, I wish I could wear them to the office!

Yes, I'd go to some place like Lord & Taylor or Hecht's and see if you can get fitted correctly.

I think I've also seen strap pads that you can wear with any bra too.

19. Forget department stores
I've had good luck getting bras at an old-fashioned lingerie shop we have here in my town. It's more of a "grandma" than a "Victoria Secret" type place, but the saleswomen actually know how to measure you properly and they can do some alterations on the bras when needed to make them fit better. Their prices aren't any worse than the department stores, either.

You might check out if there's something like that where you live.

I swear by them... I never found one that fit right until I tried their cacique brand.

I'll never wear anything but them.

on edit: btw.. I am tall and the straps are long enough too for my longer torso and length from the shoulder

23. Amen, Bertha...
I swear, they sized me wrong, because the size they told me makes me look like an old woman. I can't find a bra that doesn't hurt. And I can't find one that will hold me up!, together!, or at all. I'm stuck in a sports bra that isn't quite right. I hate it. Have you tried something with a wider strap? They're supposed to be better.

when I'm home from work (but after walking the dog : )
dontcha hate it when the underwire pokes through the fabric! I've lost so many favorite bras that way. I try to sew them shut but alas, once they've broken through.....
warning: big-breasted rant coming (no offense intended)
while losing weight, I was excited to purchase clothing in a smaller size (which I did...but no changes in the bust...nothing...same size...everything's smaller, except the boobs. even my face lost weight...but not the chest...for many of you this does not sound like a problem...but I just don't understand why

29. Have you tried Decent Exposures?
Check them out at www.decentexposures.com. All cotton, no latex, supremely comfortable, no wires. The lined styles have more support. I have worn them for years and they are great. I also have some "wires" from Lane Bryant or someplace when I want a more defined profile.

Call the number on the site and some very friendly, very caring and very helpful people will get you the size you need. They also offer adjustments in strap length, etc.

Try 'em. You'll like 'em.

Love,
MamaB and 44D

30. Why don't you try a boutique that specializes in........
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 03:46 PM by TheDeb
breast prosthetics for women who have had breast surgery (not necessarily mastectomies). These boutiques have bras for just about any type of torsoes. Large, small, uneven or lop-sided.

And the fitters specilize in making whatever type of bra that you need fit comfortably, too. They'll extend straps, put custom darts in the cups to make them fit more snugly, whatever it is they need to do to get the bra to fit you, they'll do. They'll cost more but it'll be worth it cause the bra will fit you and support you without hurting.

Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 03:56 PM by VelmaD
from Friday. Try finding a bra you can wear under a low cut shirt if you're a D cup. ARGH!!! They'd have the prettiest styles and I'd flip through the As and Bs and Cs and when I got to the back of the rack with the Ds...they'd completely change the style of the bra. I hunted forever for something that would work and of course the one I found had "D" cups that really didn't hold everything in. Had a wee "wardrobe malfunction". *sigh*

36. And to make matters worse...
Victoria's Secret charges $2 extra for bras that are a D cup or more. Like it's my fucking fault that I have big boobs! Aaaaaarggghhh! Plus, I know a lot of women who are a 34D like me, but no place seems to stock many of that size. :grr:

Oh yeah, and I just bought an Express bra at a warehouse sale they had, and it fit _great_, better than any crap I've gotten from Victoria's Secret. The problem? Express doesn't make bras anymore. :argh:

Unlike women's clothing sizes which are not even remotely close to being standardized...bra sizes are supposed to be standardized dammit. A 36D should ALWAYS FUCKING FIT ME based purely on my measurements. Guess again. Grrrrr x(

33. I HATE BRAS!!
I wear them as little as possible-- and I am a 36D!

Sports bras if I'm not wearing anything too formfitting, better yet, nothing!

I read there might be a connection between underwires and breast cancer-- yet another reason to loathe the things.

34. 80% of women wear th e wrong bra size......
I'm quite busty. Always thought, for some reason, that I was a 34C. WHen I wore my bra, I'd have 6 boobs---the 2 that god gave me, the 2 that poked out the top, and the 2 that were smooshed out to the side.

I thought it was normal. I thought that's just how bra's were supposed to be worn...uncomfortable, strappy, nasty.

But I seriously urge you to go to a store...not JC Pennys or some place like that---go to a Lingere store---I went to Victoria's Secret (and no, I do NOT have a model body in any way shape or form) and had myself properly fitted for a brassiere.

Know what size I SHOULD have been wearing? 38 DD. Yep. No kidding. Finally I was able to wear a bra and not feel like I was in a medeval torture device.

And get yourself re-measured every 2 years or so. You're under no obligation to buy a bra from them, and they do the sizing free of charge and you don't have to get undressed. But have yourself re-sized every 2 years b/c we grow and shrink and gain weight and lose it and physiologically speaking, having a bad bra is worse than having no bra at all. You can cause all sorts of bone, muscle, posture problems by wearing the wrong sized bra.

For your boob's health, get sized!!!

:)

It has links to many websites that sell bras for larger women.

http://www.glamorise.com

I found a great one there and yes, I too had mismeasured. This is the one I picked and it is way, way more comfortable than what I had!

40. I hear you.
It's not so bad now, but still, for most bras I seem to be a 36DD and in others a 36D can work (more selection, usually cheaper). Even when you know your measurements and how they fit, it can be trial and error sometimes.
Back when I was heavier (and breastfeeding), I was an H. Talk about nearly impossible to find. There were literally about two styles and they were $40-50 bucks each and they still never fit right. :grr:
