6. or like the old joke... death? or oooga, booga?
Hell, no death for me... I will take oooga booga*, thanks.

Okay, the chief says... death by oooga booga.

* for those of you who do not know old jokes, oooga booga was this particular tribe's term for anal sex.

7. Salt, most definitely
Although I haven't tried the alternatives. I always feel somewhat guilty at melting them, but damn it, stay off our plants!!!

9. other - PLEASE!! Slugs are great moisturizers
the slime they excrete is extremely effective at healing chapped, wounded or otherwise traumatized skin. The same mechanism by which their slime keeps their unprotected bodies able to keep from drying out work for us, as well. As we write, scientists are trying to develop synthetic slug slime!!!! Catch them and save them or release them into the wild.

10. My children adore slugs and snails
They often bring slugs in the house. They kept one in their room one night and he got away-- I still don't know what happened to that poor slug. That was the last slug they kept in the house and since then I've made them put them back outside, but we would never kill them. They're fascinating to watch and learn about.

13. No salt! They actually have complex central nervous sytems....
and the salt is painful!

Let them die a Dionysian death in their beloved beer.

15. Ever seen a slug mate?
If you had, you'd keep those industrious and daring little critters alive.

I have. They were suspended from the side of my house by a thin stream of mucous...writhing and intertwining....a good 3 feet off the ground. One false move and they would have crashed to the ground...maybe splattering, maybe not.

I let'em be and went into the house. They were gone later.

16. I stepped on a big one once. . .
On my grandmother's back porch. I completely squished it. It made me sick for hours, and it took forever to scrape it off my foot. They're really sticky.

Try caffeine pellets. The thing will go nuts, then go calm. Don't know if it will kill it though...

20. One of the little buggers resurrected on me once.
A slug found its way onto my front porch a while back. I gave it the salt treatment, and went back to whatever I was doing. After about half an hour, I went back out... and the slug was crawling around again!

Jesus Slug!

21. Beer traps actually attract slugs
and so as often as not, those few that actually meet their demise have already enjoyed a last meal in your garden.

Diatomaceous earth works well when spread about or around slug or snail favorites, but it washes away with watering.

The best thing I've used is copper tape. It reacts with the slime to produce an electronic charge- and slugs won't cross it.
