Is google not working for anyone else?
My google bar doesn't seem to be working. Anything I type in there (Looking for FoxNews site for the nonsensical Hannity last night) and I keep getting Page Will not Display message.

Anyone else?

10. If you can reach it and I and others cannot...
That indicates a root nameserver problem, and a serious one.

13. Tried it from a few other places on the net...
And the name is not resolving. If you can reach it now, likely it is because you or your nameserver have the address of google.com cached. However, this would appear to be a really serious problem, and I expect that the majority of users cannot reach google at present.

14. Again, this points to a root nameserver issue.
It is possible that a major corruption of the root has occurred. If this is the case, ALL sites will become unreachable eventually.

21. Hmmm, maybe you have a point.... being on the east coast
Or at least the Northeast.... in this alternate universe of Florida, no problems. My company routes through Cincinnati though, so maybe it is the east coast. Interesting.

19. When you go to a named site...
The name needs to be looked up and converted to a numerical network address before you can actually connect.

The device that does this lookup for you is called a nameserver.

All nameservers refer, ultimately to a central name directory called a root nameserver.

The system of root nameservers exists to make sure that when a domain name is created, or when its numerical address is changed, that all nameservers get the updated information in a reasonable period of time.

If a root nameserver were to lose its little mind, it could cause all sorts of havok, like directing people to the wrong places, or not being able to direct them at all.

I think that is what may have happened here.

http://204.71.200.67

Seems to be a DNS resolution issue.

27. Thanks
Mail is http://66.218.75.184 , but that only works to get to the login screen (after that, it tries to log on and look for a different domain name, and we're back where we started.

26. I've got Google, but not Yahoo, and my blog won't load either
What's going on?

It seems like a DNS problem with Yahoo -- I tried typing in their IP address (http://www.hcidata.co.uk/host2ip.htm) and ended up with a Yahoo page (a not found page, but it did resolve to a Yahoo page).

My blog's IP address, though, isn't doing squat -- the outage may be coincidental, though. It's been known to disappear for a few hours here and there.

28. i've had problems
with google and lexisnexis over the past couple of days. if "anyone" wanted to keep the "real" news from getting around, they would have a hard time shutting the 'net down, but messing with the search engines would surely put a damper on things.
