The 'Do Not Call' list: did it ever happen? Does it work? Experiences?
I'm going to go offline again for a half hour and I guarantee that if the phone rings, it will be a recording offering me... I dunno, 'cause I always hang up as soon as it's evident there's no live human at the other end of the line. Now these calls should be illegal on their face because solicitors are required by law to maintain their own Do Not Call lists, you have to be afforded the opportunity to tell them not to call, and by definition you can't do that if the caller is an automated recording. Sorry, just venting; regardless, does anybody know what the status of the national Do Not Call list? Given the mis- mal- and non-administration's record for responsiveness to public concerns and for taking on corporations, uh, consider me skeptical.

3. definitely far fewer calls now
It hasn't eliminated them entirely, since there are exceptions to the dnc list, but it's way better.

6. LOVE IT! Totally Works!
The Only, and i mean the ONLY solitication-type call came a few weeks ago and, get this---it was the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE. Oh I had a laugh at that one. But of course, they're exempt from the DoNotCall list b/c political and charities and stuff like that are still allowed to call.

But not a single call since I signed up. However, once the house-phone was on the list, we started getting solitications on the cellphone (how'd they get THAT number??) So we put the cellphone on the list and voila! Calls stopped immediately!

8. The one here
works fine. What also works is caller ID and another service (I forget what it's called) that intercepts calls that the caller ID can't capture. I almost never get a solicitor of any kind any more.

9. I Got One Such Phone Call The Other Day
I used to get quite a few calls with a recoding offering me something. About a week or two ago I got the first such call that I remember in some time, since putting my number on that list.

It is hard for me to tell at this time whether I should be upset about receiving such a call or glad that they are (so far) rather rare now. I always hope that I do not start getting them again in large numbers.

Several years ago I sent my name and address to the Mail Preference service asking that I not get unsolicited mail. It took a while for unsolicited mail to stop, but eventually it did.

11. Thanks all; done and done. Here's the link, by the way:
https://www.donotcall.gov/
Pretty straightforward; all you do is give them the number(s) and your email address. Looking forward to blissful silence from the phone!

14. Works great. After 3 months waiting period, I went from about 5...
calls a day to 0. Since February I've gotten only 3 solicitation calls. I tell them I'm on the Do Not Call List and to not call me back... *click* What a relief!!!
