Proof that the Pope's on dope. Vatican says Inquisition wasn't so bad.

Torture, burning at the stake and other punishment for the faithful condemned as witches or heretics by church tribunals during the centuries-long Inquisition was not as widespread as commonly believed, the Vatican said Tuesday.

Research findings into the dark era in church history were praised by Pope John Paul II as part of his efforts to identify wrongs it had committed.

2. Sounds like they passed the buck
to the none Church tribunals. But be fair. They don't justify the torture and burnings. They say it wasn't as widespread as believed. Not that I believe them but they don't say it wasn't "that bad".

4. What? They had fraternity pranks back then too?
I'm glad they finally got to the bottom of things and found out the torture and abuse committed during the Inquisition was not that bad or widespread, but in fact committed by a small group of people, acting on their own and not sanctioned by the Catholic Church.

Let's see....bush* just saw the Pope last week, and today the Catholic Church puts this out and it sound suspiciously like the Iraqi prison scandal. Hmmmm....Did Rumsfeld or Wolfowitz accompany bush* when he saw the Pope, or did bush* put the Pope under some sort of evil republican spell?
