6. No cicadas, but one night some years ago

and it was one of those real black nights, I looked out the back door and saw two luminous eyes looking at me. Instant thought "there IS a devil". I got brave and investigated..it was my cat hanging on the screen door wanting in.

9. Well, once many years ago,

before cordless phones were the norm, I had unplugged the phone from the wall jack--or so I thought. When it rang just minutes later, I almost had a heart attack.

But I had only unplugged the receiver from the phone base.

No god, no call. I'm still in a road movie to Berlin.
