What shall I get my step-father for Father's Day? (hurried request)
These things always creep up on me. My step-father is a wonderful guy and a lifesaver to my mom.

I only have tomorrow to get him something to mail in time to get it to him in California by Saturday. (I always procrastinate this way.)

He loves war novels. Any suggestions? Other than books is fine too. He just doesn't "need" anything so he is one of those 75-year-olds who needs nothing that I can buy him but I still want to get him something special.

Thanks

1. A new type of cheese, coffee, or tea??
I'm giving my Dad a digital camera. This will count for many events but I suspect it will be turned back. What he most enjoys is new foods. Special Olives, Garlic, etc.

3. Great idea cally, but my dad wouldn't have a clue
He is incredibly non-electronically or computer brain-wired. If it is more complicated than plugging A into B, forget it.

sigh

Maybe I should get him a subscription to Hustler. Seriously, he used to get it 20 years ago. What else can I get him?

That, or some peanut brittle.

oh boy

thanks for your thoughts

2. a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble
is always fun to get. One thing that I got my father-in-law was a digital tire gauge, and one time I got him a fancy pocket knife with gizmos and gadgets. Maybe a Playboy Magazine *blush*. Or a handheld computer game? Or something in that line, or a gameboard type of game, or a 3D puzzle, those things are really fun and my in-laws like them. Or a gadget to soak your feet in that messages them. If he golfs get him a gift certificate for buckets of balls at the driving range. Or a gift certificate for gas at one of the local gas stations. Or you could send him a bouquet of flowers. I guess I'm thinking of what my in-laws would like, but these are some suggestions is all. Maybe they are not any good, but maybe they will point you in a direction.

8. thanks for the suggestions koope57
Hah! My step-father has historically subscribed to Hustler, but I think he has let it lapsed. Not sure if I could get up the nerve to subscribe to that for him!

Flowers are definitely not a bad idea! I never think about them for guys; how sexist of me!

thanks

4. For my kids, I'm suggesting " The Blue Collared Comedy Tour".
Or something like that, it's hilarious, and quite culturally and socially incorrect. Jeff Foxworthy and those other guys are great. Hubby has seen parts of it on the Comedy Channel, none of us has seen the entire performance. It's available at Amazon.com. :D

5. How about a good geo-political globe?
Might be handy while he reads his war novels. If shipping a globe is not feasible, how about one of those large laminated world maps?

7. neat idea, agates
I absolutely love globes myself, and they certainly have changed over the past few decades. I think I'll give it a shot on-line.

thanks!!

10. If you go with an online gift cert, go with Powells.com -- union company.
Not the big corporate crap of Barnes and Noble or Borders, and a slight step above Amazon in treating its employees half-way well.
