So....anyone have any ideas for removing Silly Putty from a dog?
:eyes:

Needless to say, an unsupervised 4 year old, Silly Putty, and a pug do not mix. x(

Now the dog has about a 4-5 inch spot of totally-smashed-into-the-fur Silly Putty on his side. I don't even think I could cut it out, it's too close to the skin...

Anyone? :hi:

1. You could try ice.
Freeze it so it hardens...works on carpet.

2. Peanut butter works on gum in hair.
Why not try that? & if he's like my dog, he will clean himself afterwords!

5. Try a dinner fork with some vegetable oil
dip the tines in the oil, and gently work them "under" the putty. It might "lift" away from the skin enough, so that you could carefully snip the whole matted area..

Don't let the doggie ingest any of that putty.. It might be toxic to him/her..

The hair you cut away will grow back very quickly :)

Our labs used to get chewing gum caught in their fur quite often....Don't ask :eyes:

I used to feed my
wiener dog bologna "rings" when I was a kid. You know, the red rings.
Well, it seems that they never digested, and occasionally, my dog had a "rip cord".
I could tell you that the best way to remove the rip cord is to well, rip it.
That doesn't really help with the silly putty though.
Sorry.

7. 1. Find a Kerry for President lapel sticker image on line.
2. Mirror-image it, then print it out.
3. Press it against the Silly Putty to transfer the image.
4. Walk your dog often and proudly.
:D

8. Let it play with it
Dogs need to have fun too.

Oh, it's stuck to it.

I seem to remember silly putty being soluble in oil.

10. Silly Putty Is Basically
Boric acid dropped in silicone oil.

WD-40 might work if you're careful.

It also shatters when subjected to below-freezing temperatures.

11. I lost a fuzzy yelloe bathrobe years ago due to
silly putty in the pocket- it went through the washer and dryer and mom had to chuck the whole load. Not that I'm suggesting you throw out the pug with the putty! Maybe a groomer has some suggestions to help you

12. Excellent suggestions!
I don't worry too much about him injesting/licking it, he IS a pug, after all...not the most bendy dogs ever, and it's pretty well in the center of his side.

Thanks, all! :hi:

13. Your pug has long hair?
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 01:01 PM by Bushneedstogo
I had a Pug when I was a kid and they have very short hair.

Sooner or later it will fall off of the dog because the hair is not long enough to hold it in.

I doubt if silly putty sticks to the skin so it will drop off.

Is the wad near your dogs butt? If so take a picture of Bush from the newspaper and stick it to the silly putty.

16. He's got short hair
I thought of that too...I can't imagine it won't be replaced by new growth soon enough. I just wonder if the other dogs at the dog park will make fun of him and call him "Gomez the Leper" or something. :(

;)

22. Buy More Silly Putty and Apply to the Gob. Peel entire gob away.
Silly Putty bonds to itself. While the gob on the pug (why does this spound like a touch typing exercise?!) is stuck, the new putty will perhaps pull it loose... GENTLY.

15. I will give you the "Secret Remover of Gummy Things" info....
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 01:11 PM by XNASA
if you promise not to abuse it.

DIF Wallpaper Stripper Gel......totally safe. This stuff will take gum out of a carpet in seconds. No stain, it won't ruin colors, it won't melt fibers, etc.

And...it's safe. It will not harm your skin. No gloves necessary, even the instructions say so.

I'm tellin' ya......it works.

17. Put the dog in teh freezer for an hour or two
Just kidding. This happened to me when I was a kid. My dad eventually cut the hair that was stuck together. we tried ice, wd-40, gas, nail polish remover and some other goop he bought at True Value, but none of it worked.
The dog looked strange with a bald spot for awhile.

18. Why remove it?
Embrace the possibility that that is where the Silly Putty BELONGS. It may be a new paradigm. The universe is not only stranger than we know; it is stranger than we are capable of knowing.

It's possible that the entire purpose of existence to date has been to join these two substances together.

That's what I tell myself about the mold on my shower curtain. It makes me feel better, like I am an agent of Destiny.

24. Circuit Cooler
It's freon in aerosol cans, use to troubleshoot electronic equipment. You can probably get it at places like Radio Shack. It would allow you to concentrate the cold, and snap off the frozen putty.
