I'm not sure if you all know, but MTV and the Democratic Party put together a contest where 18-28 (I believe) year olds wrote an essay as to why it was crucial for the youth to get involved in politics.(The winner gets to read his/her speech live at the DNC Convention in Boston) Over 1100 entries were sent in, out those 1100, 50 then were selected as semi-finalists. Finally, 10 finalists were chosen. Anyway, just thought I'd say I made the top 50 cut, but sadly missed the top 10.

If you scroll down I'm toward the bottom (Sean Reynolds, Salt Lake City, Utah).

8. Here is the speech.....
At least a draft of what I had. I guess I never saved the final copy.

Sixty-Seven years ago Franklin Roosevelt stated that his generation of Americans had a rendezvous with destiny. Now it is time that my generation accepts its duty to rekindle that challenge.

It is often noted that my generation is fickle in its intent to support the political cause. Sadly in often cases, it is true. What my generation must understand however, is that they are the true guidance to the future of our nation. They hold the power of tomorrow and the ability to change today.

Over the past four years our nation has experienced trying times. In the face of such a challenge we have never been so united, yet so divided at the same time. We are united by our nationalism, but divided by our politics. Because of that, our nation has entered a turbulent time and now more than ever our youth must lead. We must guide this country through because we represent the future and we represent what makes America so great. We have the power to lay the foundation for a better America, a stronger America and an America built upon our ideals and our hopes.

To attain such an America we must let our voices be heard. The easiest way to do this is by voting. With that single vote, you have the power to change an election and possibly even change the process.

It is obvious that the youth of this country has passion. I truly believe passion directs political activism and political activism is a remarkable tool in reshaping the nation’s politics. We must use this passion as our voice, because even one voice has the power to change the world and guide a nation into its true destiny.
