3. 60 wpm, 7 errors = 53 wpm
Not bad I guess. I wear out my backspace key before any other. Thank god for computers -- I could never use a typewriter.

4. 55 WPM on QWERTY
But I plan to switch over to Dvorak in a couple weeks. I've been told I could easily reach 80 WPM with less fatigue on my hands -- not that it's a problem at this point.

Barbara Blackburn, the woman in the link, is a Dvorak typist -- she can sustain 170 WPM for 50 minutes on Dvorak.

8. I could never do that...
Hell, it took me weeks to go from a standard keyboard to an ergonomic one. No way I could ever learn new key positions...

15. I was gonna play around with Dvorak
using an old keyboard. Once I took the keys out and started putting them back in, it turns out four won't fit in their new positions. Grrr....

17. I'm just printing up key labels
I designed a template for Avery labels to be printed with MS Word. PM me or send e-mail if you'd like a copy.

I print them on regular paper or special clear plastic. If they're on paper, I put cellophane packing tape over them and then glue them to the key with a small dab of rubber cement. That sticks 'em good, but they come off with no damage to the key, and the excess rubber cleans up easy.

You can also order preprinted key caps from places like Keytronic or Hooleon for $10-$25. But with cheap keyboards at $10, that seems like overkill.

About what I expected for a programmer such as myself.

Here's the bio of the world's fastest typist..

Does anyone remember seeing her on Letterman? It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on the show. They were timing her, but she forgot to put paper in the typewriter. Half way through Dave noticed there was no paper and started cracking up. :)

I've done better. During a summer in my teen years, I went into Manpower to sign up for looking into temp jobs - I was covered in dirt and sweat from helping my brother-in-law with tearing something down. They assumed I wanted to take the tests for physical labor, and I said, "No, let's try the secretarial tests." I broke 3 records. :)

I've tested an average of 66wpm in the past on offical tests; one for a police dispatcher position. I typed a bit slowly today because I had the type set to a smaller size and couldn't read it very well.

And I'm stickin' to that story!
