Best New Shows: North Shore & Last Comic Standing
Seriously, not kidding.

North Shore is fantastic - Baywatch meets Melrose Place plus sex.

Last Comic Standing is evolution in reality TV. It's almost a documentary. Real people, real stakes, no illusions, great editing, really fucking smart, Jay Mohr's the bomb.

Right?

1. Last Comic Standing isn't really new
I religiously watched last season and it was just as wonderful!

2. OMG! I am kind of new to evening television.
LOL! I thought these shows were new....................

I used to work nights. Not a TV watcher.

HAH!

3. North Shore is new
It debuted earlier this week, and they just re-ran it again tonight.

It seemed like a good guilty pleasure show to me.

4. I still won't trust "Last Comic Standing"
especially since some 500 pound schmuck who's overly sensitive about his weight thinks nothing about getting on someone's case about their viewpoint or ethnicity.

5. Which one is that?
If he wasn't on last night then I don't know who it is. These are real comics, though, schmucks or not. That's what's cool.

15. he absolutely got robbed, and the explanations were bs . . .
the producer claimed that four program staff voted as well as the four on-air judges because they'd seen the contestants several times, while Carey and Butler et.al. only say them this once . . . if that's the case, then why have them perform at all if you're going to discount what they do onstage? . . . I mean, Naturman was one of the two funniest comics to perform last night, and that should have been the determining factor, not what they'd done previously . . . seems they wanted a certain mix in the house, and the selections weren't made on the performances, but on other factors . . . which really sucks, since the program is, after all, "Last Comic Standing" . . . last night really turned me off on the show . . .

7. I really enjoyed Last Comic Standing last season.
It's shaping up to be a good season this year, although the meddling of the producers and NBC in the judging process kind of raised my eyebrows. I'm not surprised, but it would have been nice for them to let the celebrity judges know that they could be discounted or overridden.

I live in Los Angeles, and I've had a bizzarre run in with Jay London (the really weird guy who looks sort of like a homeless troll...the guy who works at Bed, Bath and Beyond in the Beyond department!). He approached my wife and I at our table on the patio at a Coffee Bean and started telling us jokes, completely out of the blue. One-liner after one-liner after one-liner. He was funny and non-threatening, but rather strange and absolutely relentless. After he was done, he asked us if his comedy had been worth anything to us and that he would appreciate any support we could give him. Although I thought it was weird for some raggedy looking dude to come up and tell unsolicited jokes and then ask for money, he was funny, so I gave him a few bucks.

I was nearly floored when I saw him on the show. Going from "Will do stand-up for food!" to a major NBC television program.

Good for him!

10. Good god
But that's why I like the show. They really are real.

That old guy who was late because they flew him in at the last minute? Onstage drunk.

11. Yeah, I feel the same way.
Wait 'til they get in the house. They're even realer when they're not doing their stand-up act. In fact, sometimes they're funnier.
